1 in 6 American Men Between Ages 25-54 Are Not Working

An excerpt:

Quote
"There are currently 61.1 million American men in their prime working years, age 25–54. A staggering 1 in 8 such men are not in the labor force at all, meaning they are neither working nor looking for work. This is an all-time high dating back to when records were first kept in 1955. An additional 2.9 million men are in the labor force but not employed (i.e., they would work if they could find a job). A total of 10.2 million individuals in this cohort, therefore, are not holding jobs in the U.S. economy today. There are also nearly 3 million more men in this age group not working today than there were before the recession began," the Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee claim.

"Although defenders of the current economy attribute shrinking labor force participation to the increasing pace of retirement of the Baby Boomer generation, these new statistics above confirm a trend that Barron’s recently diagnosed: 'The ratio of those over 55 in the workforce actually ticked up'—in other words, older Americans are being forced to return to work in a poor economy to make ends meet while many younger Americans simply aren’t working at all. In short, there is an unprecedented supply of working-age Americans who do not hold jobs."

Kinda refutes the dummies argument about the baby boomers retiring being the cause of the lower workforce participation. For that matter I wonder how many of the unemployed are dummies?

Random thought... I wonder what NBC, ABC, and CBS would be running on their nightly news if the president was a Republican?

Isn't it great that the ability of our country to advance economically is being held hostage by the stupidity of one man sitting in the Oval office.

He gets to play at being president while millions suffer.  Except of course his rich cronies.

Don't forget Bertha Butt starring as the New Marie Antoinette, the Jet Set N...Wookie.

Like anybody needed to be told this. And the author pointedly glossed over the fact that men over 55 are really cooked.

Where TH is our Congress? And where TH is that "White Privilege" we keep hearing so much about?

It's being held hostage by a drooling old fool from Nevada.

55?  Try 40.  I just started a new job six months ago.  I shudder to think what would happen if I had to look for a job tomorrow, and I'm in a field with HIGH demand.

It's to the point now that it doesn't matter how bad your job sucks, don't even bother looking for a career change if you're over 45.  Suck it up until retirement, or at least until you can quit and go on SS/disability.

I'll tell you, Sparky, when DH lost his job a little over a year ago, neither one of us spent 1 minute being sorry. The 5, 6, 7 years before that were pure hell. For both of us. Worse than worrying about finances- MUCH worse.
A lot of good things have happened in that year that couldn't have happened otherwise. God Is So Good.

I think, it has to do with what the career field a man is in.
I was watching Shark Tank last night. Its focus was young entrepreneurs. These young men were having a hard time, because none of the products, being promoted were original. Some of them did get investments, but it was a hard sell...

A large majority of those men are probably between 18-26 and don't have a defined "career field" unless they are a college graduate.  I was still cooking people's dinners for them when I was 26, and it was the last thing I wanted to do.

Weekly Standard blog is a right wing propaganda site, but the real fact is Republican/TeaParty refuse to create jobs.  Bush and the republcians created thousands of jobs with the Department of Homeland Security.   Now, they refuse to even create jobs for veterans.

Is that 1 in 6 take into account all those in prison? Of course not because then it would be more like 1 in 4.

Over 30 jobs bills have been sent from the House to the senate and Harry the pederast Reid won't even bring a single one up for a vote.

He's your messiah, why hasn't he done something about it ? What's more, instead of just doing something about it, why hasn't your messiah fixed it ?

To OP...
Thanks for link. I am going to post it at my other forum.

@Sam Dodd  I'm not sure if you really believe this, are being facetious, trolling, or what. There's what thundley said. There's the fact that it's not the government's "job" to make jobs for our citizens (that's citizens- as in, born here or naturalized per US law) & then there's all the insane crap the 0bama administration & the democrats are doing to undermine small & medium sized businesses at every turn. Their corporate "sponsors" are doing just fine. Interestingly.

Having said that, their RINO enablers deserve their fair share of the blame, too.

What does that have to do with the fact they get their stats for the piece from the BLS?

Are you saying the Labor Department numbers are false?

Quote
Bush and the republcians created thousands of jobs with the Department of Homeland Security.

DHS was forced on people by the Dems.  The Bush administration rejected the idea of even needing this extra layer of burrareacy.

Quote
Now, they refuse to even create jobs for veterans.

Link?

Are you a veteran yourself?

No?

Then shut up.  There wouldn't be a need to create jobs for veterans if your beloved Progressives weren't so busy forcing us from the current job we have in order to have money to fund your perpetually lazy voting block.

Damn, the unemployment rate in my state just sucks what with our (R) governor and (R) legislature.

Whatever shall we do? I know... Let's elect Abortion Barbie and then everything will turn around.

What did Nancy P. say.....ever dollar in unemployment adds $1.86 to the economy or something like that?

When we are all not working and getting government freebies instead, the economy will be booming. I don't know who will be making the stuff we buy but the economy will be booming....right?.....right?......right?

plugs biden thinks we need more immigrants to solve our economic problems

Quote
Vice President Joseph R. Biden told a National Association of Manufacturers’ crowd this week that what the United States needed was more, not fewer, immigrants.
Specifically, he called for a “constant, unrelenting stream” of new immigrants — “not dribbling [but] significant flows,” to bolster the national economy, The Hill reported.

“We need it badly from a purely — purely economic point of view,” Mr. Biden said, The Hill reported.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jun/11/joe-biden-us-needs-constant-unrelenting-stream-imm/ (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jun/11/joe-biden-us-needs-constant-unrelenting-stream-imm/)

He doesn't say how these poor uneducated immigrants are going to boost the economy but since he was speaking to the National Association of Manufacturers I can only conclude that he means to use them as cheap labor.  How is that going to help the 1 in 6 men who are between 19 and 54 and are unemployed?

^ I love that chart.
It displays a solid link between stupidity for being a minority and supporting owebuma.
Karma correlation.
