All, please put Skul on your prayer list. I just received a text from his wife saying he had a major stroke and is in the hospital.
I know where but nothing else at this point. I'll post more as I get information.
Thanks,
KC

So sorry to hear this. We know too well how devastating strokes can be. Prayers going out for Skul and for his wife. Hope that he's in a first class hospital. The care here in Florida is spotty. Luckily the hospital SR went to is a designated stroke center.
Thanks to Texacon for keeping everyone posted.
-
Praying for strength to Skull and his family.
-
I saw a LOT of people while I was in rehab who had suffered strokes. It's a long, arduous journey for some. I'll include him and his family in my prayers.

By Grabthar's hammer, this is good news.

Excellent! Thank you for the update.
-
Glad to hear he said he made it through OK. Now I'm just praying for a speedy recovery for Skul, and strength for Mrs. Skul.
-
Thank you, God.
And you too, Texacon.
Ditto to both. I think it's God's way of saying to Skul, "You have more of My Work to do. Now go out and do it."
-
Wonderful news! :yahoo:
-
Good news.
-
Excellent news. It sounds like he's got quite a bit of work ahead of him. I'm guessing he's going to become very well acquainted with an occupational therapist over the coming 6-12 months. And possibly with a blood thinner like coumadin (getting the dose of that right can be ticklish). Definitely an ongoing need for prayer.
-
GREAT news! Prayers still coming for a smooth recovery.
-
Glad to read this this morning. Prayers up for Skul, and Mrs. Skul.
-
Very good to hear. :hyper:

Skul's fellow cavers were instrumental in bringing about a more speedy recovery.
I only wish I was more speedy in joining them.

New update:
I spoke with Mrs. Skul just a few minutes ago. His recovery is still ongoing but looking good. He's able to move his legs now and speak clearer. He is working with a couple of physical therapists who he likes very much so they don't want to move him to another facility just yet.
After he heals enough he is looking at some surgery but that should be a good thing for him. Mrs. Skul said she can tell he's getting better because he's requested some videos and ... pictures of squirrels! LOL
I may have to get an address and we can all send pictures of squirrels to the hospital. They won't have to be flying and some of them might even have ... *ahem* nuts on them.
She said his sense of humor is back since they've gotten his sodium levels back to where they should be and his blood pressure if finally starting to level off.
That's about all I've got for right now. Prayers should still be inbound.
Thanks,
KC

Thank you.

Good News!

Prayers upstairs!

Thanks so much for the update, Texacon. If you can get a hospital address, I can definitely send pictures of squirrels. Got a whole family of them (just not in the living room). :-) Glad to hear he's progressing. Prayers up.

The husband of a very good friend and colleague of my wife has a stroke recently.
His name is Don, and his wife Lynn was a nurse and they both worked with my wife at the same hospital.
Lynn is retiring after 30 some years at the hospital to take care of Don who is doing well.
I am saddened to learn that anyone has to go through everything involved with a stroke.
But I hope for quick and full recoveries.
-
Texacon,
Thanks for the report. If you get his address, please PM it to me. I'll send him some squirrelly stuff.
-
That would be great.
I hope he improves. Come on, Skul! :yahoo:
-
Good to hear. Continued prayers from here.

I have an address. Would it be best if I post in one of our 'other' forums or should I PM it to everyone who would like to participate in Operation Squirrel?

Glad to hear he is making progress. It;s hard to recover from things like that depending on how bad it is. Hope he continues on this path and we here from him online soon.

Happy to hear about his progress. Praying for both him and his wife.

PM to me, please.
Working with stroke people I found one of the best medicines to be humor and laughter. Some how the more outrageous and crazy the better the patient felt.
I have seen both sides of this story, those whose family and friends came to visit with long faces and had no idea what to say. Not good to have visitors crying and others believing you are going to die tomorrow.
Then there are the very few that march in and regale the patient and family of the crazy times in their life, have the patient , family and hospital staff all laughing.
This gift of laughter, insanity and fun has brought more people out of some life threatening conditions better then even medication.
A stroke is no laughing matter, it is how it is handled after the fact.
One can treat the patient as if they are going to die soon, or treat them to some fun, had a family take a stroke family member to the Circus and feed an elephant and watch the people preform. Take them to a comedy club so they can laugh or boo the performers.
One thing I learned was that to baby after a few months a stroke victim is not good. The one thing we want is for a stroke victim to gain independence and they may be forced but, they will thanks you later when they begin to recover.
