Well you know by now how this is gonna work:
1. NRA will lay low for a while and during this time
2. RWers like Joe Scar will come out for background checks, gun show regs, the usual, but this
3. Is to mollify people like (some of) us who are spitting mad...again.
4. After a time, further betrayal by our legislators as per usual will occur.
5. Joey Scar and his ilk will take their collective feet off the accelerator.
6. Rinse.
7. Repeat next time.

1. In other news, the NRA has announced that enough time has passed and we can now discuss ....
... what happened at Ford's Theater.
A little bit more blah-blah-blah nonsense--this isn't a large thread--and then the reason I brought this over:

8. Also: RW'ers whine about lack of mental health care in US
while not lifting a finger to do anything about it.
You know, I've been reading, ever since the "Mall Massacre" in Omaha a few years ago, lengthy news stories that I come across, about people running amok with guns and killing other people.
Eventually, one common factor in all of them surfaces.
In every single one of those instances, the shooter was on a fistful of mood-altering pharmaceuticals, legally and medically prescribed.
The mall shooter in Omaha had cost the overburdened taxpayers of Nebraska 1.1 million dollars (over several years) in psychiatric treatment.
A fat lot of good that "investment" did us.

One other thread that runs thru most of these shooting/killing sprees, despite the rightwingnut meme, is the fact that the perps are usually of the liberal/progressive/communist persuasion.
Suck on that, assholes.

They used to lock the mentally ill up. Did we have these mass killings back in those days?

The libs say you can't force people to get treatment, then after someone who should have been in an institution runs amok and guns down a bunch of people they cry that republicans don't do anything about treating the criminally insane.

Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one.
Lizzie was a Masshole democrat.

Just noticed coach's most excellent new avatar.
I think the DUmmies would appreciate it even more if it could be draped in black cloth.
Or accompanied by a shot of coach filing a new notch into the handle of his big SK wrench.

A few decades ago, libs decided that too many mentally ill were filling the institutions and decide to turn them loose. Result: homeless crazies on the streets, and a preference to feed the deficient pills rather than institutionalize them.

How dare you label the mentally challenged.

It was a gift to me, from a primitive on Discussionist who thought I should have it on my bedside table, or something.
It was black-framed, but that looked silly, so I deleted that part.
I'm sure that even nine years after the demise of this nonentity, many primitives still have something similar with this, framed as if an icon, hanging on the wall above a sort of sideboard table covered with nivkiy, on top of which sits a candle kept eternally lit, and the primitive reverently prays to it three times a day.
I'm not real fond of being associated with a freeloading good-talking do-nothing, but it being a gift, I thought I'd show it off for a day or two, and then relegate it to the attic.
