Title: Complex repairs completed.
Post by: miskie on May 24, 2014, 03:34:17 PM
Okay - I believe all major issues requiring directly tweaking or reconstructing parts of the database have been resolved. As far as I can tell all posts are where they should be, and all members accounts are present and accounted for. The software has been upgraded as was the database schema to current standards.

The only things remaining are restoring some add-on packages and customizations that existed before. -extras that enhance features of the forum, but aren't necessary for it to function properly... So, we should be good to go.

Okay now, there's still four problems, from what I can see.

These are things that can wait until one's motivated to fix them.

These are things that can wait until one "feels like" dealing with them.

These are things on which there's no rush.

I hope I've made it clear that these are not complaints; I'm appreciative beyond bounds, of all that's been done to get us up back and running.

The red "x" and somesuch on the left-hand side; also, my forum preferences are written in so as to exclude "country" and include "Sandhills of Nebraska."

The above's a bad example of the real problem, but I can't find a better one at the moment.

When one uses photobucket and then has text below the picture that appears, some of that text (although not in this example) is hidden, and one has to scroll down (not in this example) to read it--that is, if one's even aware there's more, and must scroll down.

There used to be six, not five, columns here, the sixth one being "page views."

<<<likes statistics; the more, the merrier.

Can we get that back, please?

"Topics started" is out of whack, depriving some members of the recognition they deserve.

An example of what it was like before:

Okay, that's all the quirks I see.  These are not, but rather requests.

These appear to be database issues, which are far out of my knowledge base. They may be repairable or they may not. We'll probably just have to live with this problem unless "magic miskie" is able to fix them.

1 - I removed the country flag thing. It seemed to be more of a nuisance than anything else. I'd venture to say that better than 95% of the members here live in the United States, most of the remaining 5% in Canada.. and a fraction of a percent everywhere else.

2 - I really need a clear example to fix this. I looked at the linked thread and it was fine.

3 - That sixth column should be showing, either another admin beat be to it and re-enabled it, or its a setting that needs to be tweaked based on the membergroup you belong to.

4 - I looked at bijou - there is something amiss. at this time she is credited for starting zero topics, and forcing a forum statistic recount doesn't solve it.

I think that I fixed this error. It was a box left unchecked. Not a big deal. It was more difficult tracking it down, LOL!!

Thanks for getting the site up and working. Was it taken down by a cyber attack that was experienced by several Conservative forum at that same general time?

How can I fix the time?

Just do what almost all the movie franchises do and, of course, every third episode of ST:TNG...  Just hang around and the time warp will find you.

When one considers the brute force behind the attack and the number of conservative sites attacked at once, one speculates it was Anonymous.

I'm sure that those behind it want to keep it that way. However, there had to be a group that coordinated such an attack.

I noticed all the old YouTube links are broken even though the BBcode that displays them is the same.

I noticed all the old YouTube links are broken even though the BBcode that displays them is the same.

I looked at them, I understand why.

It'll take a database query to resolve that. I'll tackle that later. I'm out the door for work.

No......none of that has changed.

After you made the changes, did you log out, clear out your "cookies," shut down and then restart your computer, and log on again?

<<<finds that usually works.
