Title: Obama blames Founding Fathers’ ‘structural’ design of Congress for gridlock

President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the “disadvantage” of having each state represented equally in the Senate.

At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.

“Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming. That puts us at a disadvantage,” Mr. Obama said.

The Founding Fathers decided in the “Great Compromise” in 1787 to apportion House seats based on population and give each state two seats in the Senate regardless of population. The solution was a compromise between large states and small states in a dispute that nearly dissolved the Constitutional Convention.

The president also blamed “demographics” for the inability of the Democratic Party to gain more power in Congress, saying Democrats “tend to congregate a little more densely” in cities such as New York and Chicago. He said it gives Republicans disproportional clout in Congress.

“So there are some structural reasons why, despite the fact that Republican ideas are largely rejected by the public, it’s still hard for us to break through,” Mr. Obama said.

He also said Democrats suffer from the “congenital disease” of not voting in midterm elections.

Need any more proof that obama doesn't respect the U.S. Constitution he claims to have been a scholar of?

He sounds like a whiny little bitch because he can't get his way and blames it on the Founding Fathers.  How long before the Founding Fathers are accused of racism for blocking obama in his takeover of the United States?

btw jackass, the "congenital disease" of the democrats not voting in mid term elections is not the fault of the Founding Fathers.

We need to go back to what the founding fathers intended and remove the senate from the popular vote and return them to the states.

At least this one time it wasn't Bush's fault.

The Founders had just fought against a tyrant and knew how to prevent another from arising within their midst.
It may have been 220 plus years ago but they saw you coming Obozo.

Obama never has liked the constitution.

In a 2001 public radio interview, Obama said the Constitution was a “charter of negative liberties,” full of constraints imposed upon us by our Founding Fathers.

Obama doesn't know the Constitution.

...just another Obama lie.

N.B., both Obama and his wife were required to surrender their law licenses in IL for lying on their applications.

This is why Obama specifically and Progressives in Heneral believe the Constitution is flawed.

They can't stand that it imposes negative liberties on the size and scope of government and leave the power in the hands of the people.

Obama inadvertently let us peek behind the curtain and see how he really feels about this country and what it stands for.

Most libs think that negative liberties imposed upon the government by the Constitution are a bad thing, and not something that was intentionally put in play by the Founding Fathers to protect the common Citizen from a tyrannical government.

Of course the libs can't conceive of calling the oministration a tyrannical government like they did when George Bush was in office.

Abso-freaking-lutely.

The 17th Amendment was the beginning of the end (which we are witnessing).

That and the 19th...
