Quote
A French photographer curious to know what becomes of sex workers once they retire spent years hanging around a Mexico City facility created just for women of a certain age and background and the result is fascinating book of the ladies and their stories called Las Amorosas Más Bravas, or The Toughest Lovers.

Bénédicte Desrus spent six years with the women of Casa Xochiquetzal, where around 26 former prostitutes aged from 55 to as old as 86 live out their golden years with like-minded ladies.

This is so sad

Canela has a sad backstory. The 72-year-old has Down syndrome but has in her time at the residence become a well-known and belvoed figure in the neighborhood around Casa Xochiquetzal

That is sad.
It is, but there are worse places in the world.  At least they're being cared for in some way.

That is sad.

I see nothing sad about their lives at "this" time.  These are the survivors of 50+ years of a brutal life.  Ah the storys they could tell of love, betrayel, birth and death in a half century of plying their trade.

Very true!  But I think those other places are "sad," too.
