The thing I hear most from conservatives is that the liberals want the government to provide our every need, tell us what to think, and pay for lazy people to have babies. I say BULLS--T!
Does anyone here want to simply live in a subsidized box, getting a check in the mail, producing nothing, having nothing to justify your existence? This is the image conservatives have of of a liberal America. People who consume resources without working and paying for them. Kind of like a multinational company who does business here without putting anyone to work and then hiding their money offshore to avoid taxes. They want the benefits of our markets without putting anything back. Does anyone here think the world owes them a living, I know I don't.
I will only speak for myself but I doubt there is a single person here that would respond favorably to the government dictating the rules of everyday life. It is the conservatives who want to dictate thought and acceptable behavior. Rush seems to think that he speaks for all American conservatives. He is dictating what is the "right" way to think about an issue. One of the reasons liberals do not have an equivalent is we tend to be independent of thought and find that kind of thing irritating. Conservatives love being told what to think as long as it is a conservative doing it.
The one that infuriates me the most is the thought that we want to subsidize laziness and reproductive irresponsibility. These are the symptoms of a society that makes sure that our poorest stay that way. Conservatives love to slash education, Fight real sex education for abstinence only voodoo, refuse to even talk about contraception and sneer at the thought of spending anything to help these people out of the hole they are in. They don't want to pay for poor people to have babies? They are paying for them now, because our poorest people are the least educated about their bodies.
They call us the victim party, in a way that is true. We attempt to help the people who are the designated victims in our society. We are trying to take away their punching bags, Their dumping grounds, their hiding places, their power to use us and our planet as an endless resource to use and then discard.
How can a group of people who have been called "A herd of cats" also be looking for someone to think for us? Submission to power is a conservative trait.
The only reason I post this is because it is being avoided like the plague with only one weird response so far.

No one ever said liberals want the the government to "tell them what to think". That's what liberals want for conservatives through "hate crimes" legislation, the Fairness Doctrine, speech codes and political correctness, taking all mention of religion out of the public eye, etc.
No, when it comes to liberals themselves, they just want "the rich" robbed and their money redistributed to them, who after all really deserve it more than the people who actually earned it. They want that gubmint largesse on other's backs but no personal restrictions on their behavior at all.

Yes actually, I've seen pretty much that same sentiment over there in the cesspit many times. The selective perception over there is staggering. This same asshole would probably swear on his mother's grave that there was is "no hate on DU". :whatever:
