Lady Freedom Returns (7,290 posts)

HA! I just got my first painting sale! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
And how it came about was ...

The lady contacted me via Facebook after she did some looking up of info. She found info that I posted about "Road of Life" here on DU, but she first heard about it... on a "conservative" web site!

That's right! She got her interest in my work from them bashing me!

I sent her the info for the studio, and was just called by the gallery to tell me it is sold and is getting shipped out tomorrow!

Happy Birthday to me!

No comments worth rowing over just yet.

3. You sold "Road of Life"? Congrats, but I would have bought that sucker!

I liked it a lot!

You still have pics of it, I hope...

Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, Skippy, you would've bought it.

Perhaps, if it were true.  Either one of the jokers over here bought her "art", or Amber spun another tall tale.

Any minute now, I'm expecting her to make another post about Chief White Cloud.

Try to make heads or tails of her story of how the woman found the painting.  Then try to find the CC thread where we discussed it in the Google results.  Anywhere.

Sorry, Amber.  Try harder next time.

Even if it were true, Amber is only proving my point that we give her more exposure over here than she will ever get at the DUmp.

I don't remember any.  Had no idea the fruit loop even painted.

Yep, and exposure here would, doubtfully, lead anyone to searching her out to buy a K-Mart quality drywall hole hider.

An Amber painting would make a great gag gift for any CC get-together.

The only thing funnier might be the Holy Grail (at least to me), which is one of Omaha Steve's two campaign signs he put out.

I heard it was her ripped boyfriend, Whitecloud who bought it. He wants to use it as the cover of the new Harlequin biography of their homeless romance: Under the Bridge.

No, that's not it.  Skippy hasn't had any sense since he was teenager, before he fell under the spell of someone and got brainwashed; his mind and his opinions haven't been his own since then.

Skippy's the sort who always promises to do a good deed, but never does it.

But because he promised, that makes him feel good, feel morally superior.

You know the type, sir.

Interesting clue.  Some here do that professionally.  First suspects that come to mind are Big Dog and Tucker.

Battlehymn also offers another clue:  A gag gift for a CC get-together.  Who, as we speak, has stickied in the lounge, a thread about a baconfest meet-up?  Again:  Big Dog.

Also:  Who was the first one to accuse another caver, Gina, of the deed?  Again:  Big Dog.

Wasn't me, I swear!

I wonder what she got for her painting.

We have an arts show up here that once a year does an auction on all the stuff the artists cannot give away.  The frames for the paintings cost more then what is got from Auction.

Went one year and my 18 year old got carried away she wanted to buy Something and finally bid on a painting that was, well odd.    She got it and when home we checked it out and found it was a painting of ravens pecking to death women in a forest.

Back of the frame was a plank with the artists name, interesting.   So I hung the piece in my bathroom for about 10 years.

When I remodeled the bathroom I took it down and out of curiosity Goggled the Artists name.

Seems she went on to better things, a leader in the Lesbian group and this painting is now worth 500 times from what my daughter bought it for.    --  That is worth in that community for those that collect this stuff.

I've bought a lot of old pictures just for their frames.  It's easy to refinish frames too.

This, to me, is mind boggling.  I can understand giving praise to a 7 year old and hanging the fingerpainted hand on the refrigerator, but the comments from the DUmmies (like the example posted here) are ridiculous.  She is NOT a 7 year old, and the time for facing reality is upon her.

I once entered an art contest in junior high school by getting my three dogs and two cats to walk on a 2x3 canvas with different-colored painted paws, and called it "Animal House." I was "praised" because of the "concept," but in reality, I was ridiculed by the other kids. It made me "feel bad" for awhile, but in retrospect was exactly as should have happened and was one of the life lessons people should learn at a younger age.

LF hasn't quite gotten past the false praise stage, and frankly doesn't understand why she's being laughed at... and not just by us but by the DUmp itself.

If you got a 2X3 canvas and had some of the primitives walk around on it with paint on their feet, you could call it "Idiot House".

That's probably the best art Norman Rockwell ever did; I think it's from 1951 (not sure), and was the cover of the Saturday Evening Post Thanksgiving of that year.

It's awesome, the grandmother and grandson saying grace in a greasy-spoon joint near a big city bus station, the coarse hardened truck drivers looking on in wonder.

It's not the full picture; I just happened to have this one in photobucket.

Amber can shove her "art" up her ass and smoke it.

I think DUmmy "Cherokee Dem" and Skippy are just humouring her and of course, Amber lurks here . . . this isn't the first time some post here "inspired" one of her stories. The image tags on this DUmp host are from GOPCongress' photobucket account.

We'll I suppose her "Road of Life" is better than chimpanzee fecal art.  But not as good as a free Avis road map.

Of course this isn't art, it's therapy.

The folkes that wonder around the room just don't wear lab coats any more.

Anyone remember William Hung ?
The guy had absolutely no talent.
Why didn't his friends tell him to prevent him from making a complete fool of himself ?
A friend who won't tell you your weaknesses to protect you from being hurt aren't friends at all.
LFR has no such friends.
William Hung reminds me of her.

William Hung had guts.  People admire that.  Plus, he was so bad that he was good.

There is a fine line between bravery and abject stupidity.  William Hung, IMO was on the bravery side of that line.  Amber?  Anyone who leaves a warm home because people who love her are looking out for her (and realizing that she's not mature enough to make sound decisions) to go chasing some guy who might actually remember her name . . . who also happens to be a thousand miles away . . . is stupid in the extreme.

Someone actually paid money for that?

Not too many people other then Amber can paint a picture by simply placing a paint brush between her ass cheeks. That takes talent! The she the small details with by hand. Who ever bought the print is going to wonder why it smells like shit.

Why is Amber over here for any reason?  What about the "cease and decease" order against members here?  I'm no attorney, but would visiting here and then posting about it go against such a thing?

Bueller?  Bueller?

Because the DUmp doesn't pay any attention to her.

I studied that image, and was struck by the stark, depressing scene outside the window.... an industrial city scene which evokes the sad hopelessness of the working class.... I wondered to myself what city was depressing enough to serve as inspiration for Rockwell..... So I hit the google to see if my suspicion was correct.

Yup, it was.

Rockwell"... visited Automats and diners in New York and Philadelphia to get the scene just right ...

Actually, there was a few more things, but Photobucket is extremely limited in re-edits. In addition, it really does a crappy job in text editing and sizing, and for some reason the latest edit (with a message from Obama to Pitts) was not included.

By the way, once freedumz deletes her post it will be too late for her to keep the page from being saved for all posterity at the Wayback Machine (LINK)

Y'know, she should have paid my $1.60 (modest 10%) commission and avoided all her problems.

You know, if I were you, I would've put a blatantly pornographic image there instead, but that's just me.

Amber's probably not aware it's theft to use someone else's bandwidth--or if she knows, she doesn't care.

In case one's not aware, years and years and years ago--maybe circa 2002 or 2003--there was a big kerfluffle between my fellow alum Skins and the owner of freerepublic.

Members of freerepublic were "hot-linking" photographs of primitives, using the primitives' bandwidth.

That very quickly became a no-no on freerepublic; not posting pictures of primitives, but posting pictures of primitives using their bandwidth, rather than one's own.

The same rule which applies here; photobucket after all is free anyway.

I would've googled for an image of a naked fat woman or something, and used that; the primitives then would've noticed in a hurry.
