Caricatures of Empire...
I grew up in Mexico City, and at 17 I took a sociology class. My instructor was the General Secretary of the Mexico City Communist Party. The real hate for the United States, it was something we all drew with out mother's milk. You even read it in the papers that the United States was evil, and the heart of all problems around the world. It was just the way it was. And everything the US did, good or bad, was questioned.

I understand that the US is advancing it's own interests. I also know it is an Empire in decline (a dangerous kind of Empire)The result of creeping socialism.
Do not get me started on NAFTA, and the slew of treaties that followed, or the TTP. But I do not see the US as the heart of all evil. I am sorry. I see the US as advancing it's own goals, like everybody else. International politics can be worst than watching sausage being made. Maybe wurst, even.
And we cannot mind our own business because we are a continental empire. And we are also a very reluctant Empire to boot. But if you really want to fight that, you need to start by changing how DC works and who is the power behind the curtain, and it is not you. It is not we the people. And that is the problem, people really do not understand the mechanics of it, Of course, gNads knows it all. and that is on purpose.
A lesson from History, Just what they need. the USSR stopped doing that crap (for a while they are now on try number three, at least) is when people took to the streets en mass and the army stopped getting paid.
People navel gazing on the web is gong to change nothing. And that includes minds. The gong show.

and the corruption under the Bush administration is indeed breath taking. Right now, we have it still at breath taking levels. In fact, I have my doubts it has been cleaned at all. Not because one was an R and the other a D. These are structural problems now.
Also our corruption tends not to be with the President, but with Governors, State Houses and the Federal Legislature. And it has to do with how we finance elections, as well as play to pay in the US House and Senate. They skirt the edge so closely often, and on both parties.
Presidents tend to keep their noses more or less clean because the payout after the years in the WH is spectacular.
As I said, it's different but at least IMHO opinion it is bigger, but we are also talking of an economy at least 400 times the size of the Mexican economy.
And Salinas was not the worst. Portillo, oh don't get me started with Portillo, and De La Madrid. Salinas came at the end where after a series of Presidents, some of them on the Neoliberal side, well there was not much left to loot.
Locally we have a few issues that would shock most everybody... except those of us who have seen this corruption before as well.
Nothing makes sense,but it's all about her.

Political party Affiliation
well after reviewing the modified closed primaries for the state of California, I finally went to the Postal office and re registered, with the note, decline to state party affiliation. Yes as of today, I am an independent. For all of you screaming but, don't let the door hit you on the way out... bear in mind there were another four people doing the same at the same post office, in a very red county... and all WERE and HAVE BEEN grassroots party activates, in one case probably longer than most of you. So we started a conversation, I wanted to know what drove some folks to take this step... and see if any were in the same wavelength as myself
two it was the Monday vote.
two it was the unwillingness by the party to even attempt to get a Primary challenger to Dianne Feinstein, and Monday did not help, even if she voted on the right side this time.
Me, the fifth one, way too many reasons, and yes Feinstein figures in this as well.
Bear in mind we all feel the party no longer represents us, and it has moved away from us... now this is a report from the ground, could be a fluke, could be a trend... I don't know. For the moment, looking forwards to sending a long letter to Chairman Dean with a CC to the California Democratic Party letting them know why... a swift kick in the pants is needed.
Does this mean that I will no longer work for Progressive causes? Far from it, present to me a Progressive Democrat, I am there, with money, time and shoe leather... present to me a DLCer... well that is why I am now an independent.
Looks like gNads has been at odds with democrats and her dem underground friends for quite awhile.

Apparently, what gNads doesn't know is that there usually isn't a "independent" ballot in Primaries. You still have to ask for an either/or party ballot. And that is what shows up when you peruse voting records. It's also the reason I don't vote in primaries, leaves a trail.
