I was coming home today and saw an SUV in my backyard backed up toward my shop. He jumped in his SUV and headed out the lower drive. I blocked him in. I asked what he was doing here. He claimed to be looking for someone. Neither one of us got out. I told him I had already had a lot of stuff from around here and I didn't trust anyone any. Lying bastard said he worked for a living. I backed up into the middle of the main road so he would have to go south and I could get his tag number. He drove onto the shoulder almost into the ditch to go north so I only got a glimpse of his tag as he went by. I drove into my yard and noticed my granddaddy's old long tail shop vice was gone......took off up the road after him but he was gone. It's not that valuable but it made me mad enough to call the sheriffs department.
They sent a deputy out, I described what was stolen, what they were in and what I thought were the 3 digits on the tag. He left and a few minutes later I had clamed down enough to take another inventory of the place. I was also missing a large red electric motor and a red 'chip' blower(Dust sucker). So, I called the sheriffs department again and told the girl I wanted to add a couple of other things. She asked what and I told her. She said she would send the deputy back out here. A couple of minutes alter my cell phone rang, it was the deputy. He asked me what else was missing, I described it and he said, "I'm standing here looking at it. Can you please come to the scrap yard and identify it and pick it up."
1 hour from the time they stole my stuff, I was back home unloading it. Oh, and to sell scrap here now you have to have a photo ID. So, they have his ID and for $34 in scrap he will soon be in jail.

Outstanding. Hope the sumbitch gets 5 years.

That's so upsetting. I'm glad you got your stuff back.
We came home from the movies one night to find our house ransacked. They had dumped every closet and drawer. The stuff they were planning on stealing was all sitting by the front door, so we must have surprised them.
I think what made me so upset, was that I had just gone through all my closets and cleaned them out and reorganized and had to do it all over again.... :bawl:

Did he have an OBAMA '08 or OBAMA '12 sticker on the back of his truck?

I would bet money he was an Obama voter....but I was to busy trying to find his tag in my rearview mirror to notice any bumper stickers.

Sorry it happened to you, but I'm glad to hear you got it back.
Thefts of weighty items then taken to the scrap yard are a big thing just about everywhere these days, it seems.
It became enough of a problem here, that all the recyclers are requiring I.D. to do business.
Again, I'm glad you recovered everything.

Oh, and to sell scrap here now you have to have a photo ID.
And there you have it:
The only time the DUmmies could claim that an I.D. requirement disproportionately effects democrats and be right about it.

The county passed that here a couple of years ago. To late to do me much good though. They had already stolen everything that 2 good men could pick upi

Got to have a photo ID to sell junk but not one to elect 'junk'.

Glad (and amazed) you got your stuff back.

The unmitigated nerve of that lib thief. It's downright junkist to have to show an ID to scrapyards.
-
I took cans and some iron poles from our spring cleanup to the recycler. I asked him if he needed my ID and he said no, that I looked honest enough O-)

THANK YOU ALL for the information on scrap dealers requiring an ID to sell to.
Now I wonder just what else someone needs an ID to make a transaction in todays world.

All the more reason to 1--carry, 2--have them open the truck when they try to drive off.
So sick of these assholes.

Glad you got your stuff back, JohnnyReb.
We had a rash of robberies here recently. Some dude was stealing actual manhole covers to sell for scrap. (Who would buy govt property like that?) He was caught on camera. Dangerous. Wouldn't it F up your car royally if you drove over an open manhole?

keep an eye open at the DUmp for a sob story from some DUmmy whining about how he was unfairly arrested for trying to clean up his neighborhood and save the planet by taking unwanted trash that had left lying around by some rethug teabagger to the whole earth recycling center.

They used to hang horse thieves.
Maybe they should start again.

That was happening here and yes removing the manhole covers could be very dangerous. The thieves that should be shoot on the spot at the scrap yard are the ones stealing the brass and bronze markers and flower pots from graveyards.....now that is low.

That is the lowest of low. Not to sound like nadin, but I visit lots of graveyards, and see that sort of vandalism all the time. It's sickening.

My Drill Instructor used to tell us to shut our sewers.
