Tesla is the new Hummer. Flying down the highway reading Drudge

Should anybody be surprised that the kind of self-absorbed people that will spend $100K for an electric status symbol would be avid Drudge readers?

http://jalopnik.com/tesla-model-s-owners-apparently-like-reading-drudge-rep-1557903720

But seriously, what the hell is anybody doing browsing websites when they should be concentrating on driving safely?

Gee, wasn't it, like, yesterday that Teslas were the greatest cars in the world, a clear threat to all of those freepermobiles (er...forget that those freepermobiles are mostly built by union monkeys)... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024780649)

     Boy, are you DUmmies fickle.

Nope. Anything any one of us says damns us all. I apply the same rule. One DUmmy says it, they all say it.

Bill O'Reilly has been talking about them all week.

He wants the federal government to take it over. The guy is not a reliable conservative.

From what I got out of Bill's talking about it is that he thinks the government should back the research into better electric cars. His thoughts are that the less we depend on OPEC for oil the better. He looks at it as the National Defense type issue.

How does he not see that it's not a conveyance issue, it's an energy issue ? You have to plug them into something. He hasn't thought it through very well.
When you get the feds involved the best efficiency you can hope for in the final product is 25%.

The fundamental problem with all electric vehicles is currently twofold.

A ) The electricity used to charge it often comes from hydrocarbons - so, its not that the usage of them is eliminated, its shifted someplace else. Also, the batteries are a toxic waste nightmare if you are an 'earfer'.

B )  Converting energy from one form to the other always results in a degree of loss, often through heat. Converting hydrocarbons to electricity, then converting that electricity into propulsion is more wasteful than going straight from hydrocarbons to propulsion.

Even though I like the idea of alternate fuels, there is little chance that they are going to result in any net positives anytime soon. BillO' should be looking into expanding US production of hydrocarbon based fuels to move the nation away from OPEC - its the path of least resistance.

National defense is kicking the holy dog shit out of people who attack us. You don't do that in electric cars. When Tesla decides to get serious and quit catering to people who only drive about 5000 miles a year anyway, they'll make an affordable electric car. By and by, the others will catch up or other competitors will emerge. Anyone who thinks modes of transportation changed overnight when the car was introduced should read some history...there were still piles of horseshit on the streets of some small towns as late as the 30's.

There will be a glut of fossil fuels as a result, which will eventually cheapen the production of electric power. Ironically, this will challenge alternative energy sources even more, unless the cost of generating solar power continues to decrease.

There is also the possibility, if not the likelihood, that Western economies will be based on alternative fuel sources, while others will be based on fossil fuels.

Notice how in almost any scenario, everyone gets richer. Wealth is not zero-sum, as the stupid moron DUmmies believe.

National defense is two part- active and defensive. THIS would fall under defensive.

But limiting the amount of overseas 'stuff' the country requires we make ourselves safer from influence from the outside.
Look at Europe right now. Half the countries asre afraid to do s hit about Russia in the Ukraine because most of the oil and energy comes from them! WE rely on less from others it makes us safer.

As for electric cars taking time to get into production then we better hurry up and get it going. ALthough technology is advancing more rapid than in the past. Cell phones and lap tops and tablets, and digital TV... all in twenty years.

And just think, the faster we get to alternative fuels, the more worthless becomes that shithole Venezuela. I can't wait.

So far, "alternative fuels" are about as legitimate as "alternative medicine".

Every "alternative energy" company exists solely to soak up taxpayer funds from their democrat cronies, supported by well-meaning do-gooders.

When the government subsidy dries up every single one of those companies will evaporate.

They promote the global warming scam to stave off that day of reckoning.

If somehow solar miraculously became inexpensive and capable of meeting all our energy needs and making us prosperous then liberals would instantly hate it and try to shut down its use.
Environmental issues are just a tool for them to try to end capitalism.

Don't lose sight that Bill is a oil company blaming hater.  His conspiracy theories about oil companies make many DUmmies seem sane.

That's for real, I saw it done on the internet. :-)

You don't get more electricity out than you put in.

It is neat but the problem is that the magnets used to induce movement can weaken and die.
For it truly to be considered perpetual it would have to generate electricity to create electromagnets which would be self sustaining.
Since the motion requirements needed to generate that are likely greater then what the magnetic force can induce it fails.
It is a highly efficient motion device but really nothing more.
