This has been a DUmmy topic previously, and resulted in the OP getting slapped around quite a bit regarding release of medical record information, discrimination, ADA, and any number of other reasons.

People suffering from severe depression should be banned from purchasing/carrying guns
At least until their condition has been resolved.
I'm sorry, I support the second amendment. I just do not think firearms should be so readily available to just about anyone.
We do backgrounds for criminal activity, but do not care about the aplicant's mental state? That doesn't make much sense.
I hope things will change in the future. We can't afford losing so many innocent lives due to lax and careless gun control laws.
Here's the first one, there will probably be more

1. Would you agree to having your medical records released
to prove that you do not\never have had any kind of mental condition? From what one reads on DU, there are no DUmmies who could prove they do not/never have had ....

I don't see why not. A (D)Marxist surveillance state; guarded by weaponized police and indoctrinated daily with propaganda from ABPravda and CBTass? What could go wrong?
1. Would you agree to having your medical records released
So, no likey Obongocare?

Obamacare requires more electronic medical records. I'm sure that will also include all prescriptions, so it's only a small stretch to see them made available for background checks.

Spoken by someone who has most likely never laid eyes on a 4473 form.

94. I see your point, but...
what about the families of people who have severe depression?
In my case, should Mr Pipi have his firearms taken away because I'm the one with a history of depression?
No, Mr. Pee Pee should have his wife taken away. I would if I were him.

90. I move to go further than this.
Anyone with any mental disability (e.g. depression, manic depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.) shouldn't be allowed to own a gun
That would be about 3/4 of the posters in DUmmy Land

NCTraveler, Bigot, No?
Hoyt, who happens to be obsessed with guns because he posts on the subject like 15 times a day and is also an expert on anti-social behavor...Hoyt (15,945 posts)
137. It is definitely a sign of anti-social behavior. When one covet multiple weapons, and get all into so-called "self-defense," special loads, best gun for folks fleeing a hurricane, etc., they -- and we -- have a problem.
Apparently DUmmy Hoyt doesn't consider his being a DUnce as being a problem. OK.
