My family's food for a week. 3 Adults, $35...
<a picture with a few staples and then some junk food>
Note, our cooking options are limited to a microwave and electric skillet.
Fortunately this week we are in a cheap weekly hotel. Unfortunately, it is forecast to rain hard on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so we will be back to living in the cab of our pickup next week. It's been a BRUTAL spring as far as rain goes, damn near every weekend.
If this keeps up I will be bankrupt and will lose what little I have.
And what REALLY breaks my heart is that had it not rained this weekend we probably would have grossed three grand and been looking at smooth sailing for the rest of the year. Instead, we'll be homeless and hungry for at least all of April.
Sometimes, like now, I just want to give up on everything. It's just so depressing. I know, compared to many I have it bloody good. But I am tired of getting ****ed by life's little tricks.
Own it.

6. Are you in one of the states most affected when jobs were shipped abroad?
I'm terribly sorry, and hope that things look up for you immediately. Is there any family near you that can help at all?

8. No, no one I know can help us. If you care...
We are "self-employed" because that's the only thing we can do and do well. We travel around working festivals and fairs. Which sounds like fun I suppose, but it's tough work. So far this year it has been storm after storm after storm, weekend after bloody weekend. This weekend would have been one of our biggest of the year, I should have grossed a few thousand which would put us solidly back on our feet, but weather underground is calling for rain Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Seriously, every weekend, every damn DAY, it's been something. Some new disaster or insolvable crisis, something else broken or something else I cannot pay. You ever see a dog that someone abused, how they flinch at every noise? That's what I feel like.
I feel freaking shell shocked. It's just been too damn much, and I know, I just ****ing KNOW that next weekend it will do it to me again. Like the world or life is trying to send me a message to give up. I am trying to ignore that message. The only reason I am typing it here is in the hope that maybe it will relieve some of that TENSION.
Anyway, if you read this far thanks for reading. I appreciate your well wishes, and hopefully I'll get some luck soon.

7. I'm in the same boat as you are.
I feel like I'm in a hopeless situation too and can't see any way to climb out. Physical ailments make it impossible to work in a number of jobs since I would probably faint within a couple of hours. The lingering effects of the Great Recession will likely claim many victims
Have you checked into any programs like food pantries that might help supplement your groceries?
The demo chris primitive has a darwin fish for an avatar, so I should think they'd limit themselves to just atheist food pantries.

11. Currently in Grapevine staying with a longtime friend.
However, I will have to leave here soon since his sons will be returning from college next month. I don't know exactly when I'll have to leave, but this was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement and I'm in my third week here. I've been studying the homeless shelter situation, but the options aren't going to help me with my longer term goals like having a job and a permanent job that will pay the bills.
I applied at a non-profit to get medical supplies and got a voucher for some food at the local food pantry. I revised my resumes and have attracted a bit more interest, but haven't received anything besides automated responses. By most standards, I have fairly decent skills and experience but it also makes me over-qualified for a lot of positions. Apartment rents are also going through the roof around DFW so even if something comes through, I expect that 40%-50% of my income will go for rent. That doesn't include utilities and I have a number of other medical problems and no vehicle (except a bike).
I made a lot of mistakes over the years and I probably should have swallowed my pride to declare bankruptcy back in 2000, but I thought that I could still preserve my credit rating. I need to see if I can get disability but when I tried to get into the Parkland program I was informed that they weren't accepting any new patients for the remainder of March. I have a clinic appointment next Monday so I'll give them or JPS in Tarrant County a shot. Being diabetic, anemic and having a few other medical issues means that I don't have much stamina as I recently discovered when I vacated my last apartment. It would be nice to do something productive again--even if it was part-time tutoring, but with school letting out soon that isn't going to help during the summer.

Ok, fess up, which one of you guys is an asshole?

Gypsies, tramps and thieves. They sound like roving pick pockets or scam artists of one type or another.
-
That was a keen and descriptive insight on the darwin fish.
-
I hate to see people in dire straits, even DUmpmonkeys.
This primitive seems to have no marketable skills what-so-ever.
Who are the other two adults? Do any of them have marketable skills, and why aren't they all, searching for employment?
Thundley may be closer than he thinks. I think carni people.
Perhaps a move to Tucson where they can make and sell trinkets on the street, might be in order.
Perhaps that idiot should remove the little Darwin fish, and reflect how well that has served him in the past.
Then again, perhaps his plight, is exactly what Darwin envisioned.

I don't think anyone likes seeing people in bad situations, but when they can think of nothing better to do than go online and blame other
people for their problems, it's hard to feel sorry. If I was squatting in someone's home, I'd make exactly ZERO posts on an internet message
board because that would be time I could better spend looking for a job.
And I sure as SHIT wouldn't worry about national or global politics the way DUmbasses do.

Carnies

It sounds like carnies or scammers that follow the fair circuit. I don't think they are ride or game operators, becuse they would have to keep a cash reserve to keep their equipment running.

Interesting that you mention that. My ex-wife had a close friend and "husband", come visit us in Colorado.
After three weeks of mooching, I had to ask them to depart. They were the carnie type.
Made trinkets and roach-clips. I don't do weed, never have.

I love these DUmmy-in-distress threads!
There's nothing more entertaining than suffering DUmmies!
Three adults on $35 per week because none of them will work.
I truly hope they starve to death.
This carnie Demo_Chris and the deadbeat DUmmy TexasTowelie should head for Tucson.
In Tucson, deadbeats get free apartments, free faux jobs, and they even give you blueberries!
These DUmmies should get in an "I'm-so-poor-that..." contest with our old buddy stew.
They could give stewart a run for his no money.
-
A couple more DUmp economic geniuses.
A lifetime of failure but can never see what the common denominator of their troubles is.
-
Going to be relegated to living in his truck next week--how the hell is he posting at the DUmp?
Carnies should always have a backup plan, because in life, a little rain must fall. Ask Amber what the going rate is on happy endings and such.
-
I think the problem lies in the fact that not enough DUnces are sending out good vibes and such.
-
But this DUmmie still has the time and resources to find a computer and post on a public forum. :mental:

Plus according to Pelosi he should be celebrating the fact he is not job locked and has the freedom to be broke while pursuing his dream of having every filthy carny scumbag there is visit his glory hole when the midway lights go down.

Houseguests and fish: neither should stay in your home for more than three days.

Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't have your back, DUmmy (http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-03-31/learning-from-gwyneth-paltrows-working-mom-backlash)
Gwyneth Paltrow inadvertently sparked a global working-mom revolt with her comments about how hard it is to juggle motherhood with the lifestyle of a globe-trotting superstar actress: “I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening,†she told E! “When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as—of course there are challenges—but it’s not like being on set.â€

Anyone else sick of her saying the word "photographer?" If she says it one more time, I'm putting a boot through the TV.

I'll bet both this carnie and deadbeat TexasWhatever are in violation of the ACA mandate.
Has the jug-eared muslim set up a number we can call to turn in violators?

My money is on apiece. They never met a meal they didn't like.

I would bet money you are right. I had a friend of mine who actually was going hungry to feed her children. She is only about 105lbs and finally fessed up once when I had her over and we were talking like friends do. Told me she had gone without here and there through the winter a couple of winters ago and I told her she would come over here and get dinner if it came to that and she was actually crying. Now she never took me up on it(other then when she has been my guest obviously) whether from embarrassment(still) or things are better, but yeah, I find it easier to believe a 105 lb woman is skipping meals to feed her children then a 300 lb one. If the 300lber is missing a meal, it's probably not regularly.

BTW, those look like walmart brands in that cart--pretty sure that's their eggs and the off brand cookies. I thought that was against the rules at DU?

They were. I believe he mentioned that in the post.
When down and out, any port in a storm.

I could do a lot better with $35 and make enough decent meals to last the week.

A dangerous philosophy.
I'm reminded of Tom Abbott, getting off that sub looking for a woman, any woman.

I'm deeply saddened by the cold response of many members of this board. These poor folks are fighting to stay alive while the evil food manufacturers are ripping them off. Recently I have been shocked by the prices on the Omaha and KC Steaks websites. And the price of lobster has gone into the stratosphere since somebody in the DC area has been buying them all up. How are we going to feed our families?

He really doesn't need the cookies, and the iceberg lettuce has zero calories and zero nutritional value. He could read the Hillbilly Housewife website for how to really stretch a food dollar, but there's the off chance she might be a teabagger, so no.

Whole chicken is a dollar a pound. Homemade bread is a quarter a loaf. If you don't mind eating the same thing every day for a week at a time, you can save money buying in bulk.
That's usually what I end up doing. I'll have the same thing for dinner every night until I've used up whatever I've bought (chicken or pork) and do something else next week. This week was mostly soup and bread.
-
It could be worse.
The DUmmy could be forced to eat at NJCher's house.
