Update on my ACA experience

Hi all. I'm a self-employed medical transcriptionist whose income has been going down fast over the last few years since more and more doctors are using electronic medical record systems.

The last time I posted, I had qualified for a silver plan that with the subsidy would cost just over $87 per month. I held off as long as possible to submit my income estimate for 2014 since I really have no way to predict anything, and I have a dental problem that I thought I might need to use all my money for. I was considering opting to take the penalty (which would be far less than the $87 per month) and deal with my tooth.

As it turned out when I ran my income/expense numbers for my taxes and an estimate for ACA this past week, the first quarter of 2014 is worse than last year ... I should be completely depressed over this ...

EXCEPT I NOW QUALIFY FOR MEDICAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Connecticut, this includes one vision exam and one pair of glasses per year ...
 AND DENTAL COVERAGE!!!!

I'm not sure if it's limited coverage or if I can only see one of their in-network dentists, but I don't care. One of my front teeth (yeah, one of the two middle ones on top) is on the verge of breaking. At best, it needs a filling, at worst, it needs a crown. Even if I have to cover the difference between the cost of metal and white filling/crown, that is a HUGE relief to me that I'll be able to get this taken care of without having to choose between having dental work done or having health insurance coverage.

Even if my income goes up enough in 2015 where I have to pay something, at least I can put out the immediate dental fires, get a proper pair of glasses to use at the computer, and make sure any medical issues there might be are taken care of this year.

Holy crap!!!! I should be getting my card in about 10-14 days!!!!

So happy and relieved!!!!

***** DISCLAIMER: I am very happy about the ACA, but this does not mean I don't have the right to criticize any of President Obama's other policies/actions/inaction, etc. I do not abdicate the right to my citizen's voice by accepting a Medicaid card. Thank you.

Most normal people would be concerned about having a poverty level income. Not the primitives though!

5. yea!

My husband changed jobs, but new benefits don't kick in for 3 months. We are able to use the ACA as filler, but even with insurance through work, our healthy 20 year old will stay on the ACA plan because it's less expensive. We live in NC where they didn't expand Medicaid, so get to pay more... but it's still all good for us.

(Husband was out of work for a fri---g 8 months, accepted a job with a lunatic, but thankfully seems to be in a much better situation now. Having lived the nightmare of unemployment, all I can is the gop and its cult-like followers are godless.)

And completely agree, that critical reasoning leads to criticism of any politician, since they can't do everything correctly. (truth be told, the reverse should be true, in that I should be able to find something W did that I might agree with. The best I can come up with is that Super Bowl Sunday must have been awesome.)

About that....

Reducing Paperwork and Administrative Costs. Health care remains one of the few industries that relies on paper records. The new law will institute a series of changes to standardize billing and requires health plans to begin adopting and implementing rules for the secure, confidential, electronic exchange of health information. Using electronic health records will reduce paperwork and administrative burdens, cut costs, reduce medical errors and most importantly, improve the quality of care. First regulation effective October 1, 2012.

Silly primitive.  Nobody accepts Medicaid.  It pays peanuts, and those rich Connecticut doctors and dentists don't work for peanuts.

Silly DUmmie also thinks she can just pay the difference between the Medicaid payout and the premium care she wants.  If the doctor accepts Medicaid (or Medicare for that matter) it is illegal for him to accept additional payments.  If she can find a dentist to work on her (I expect the office will look like Gosnell's) the only authorized treatment will be to yank the tooth.

I sort of feel sorry for the people who fall for "training" scams for jobs like this.

Sort of.

I'm not rich (yet) but I get up three hours before work.  With a 12 hour shift, it is the only way for me to get stuff done around the house

That's awesome.  The Dummy's job has been made irrelevant by the same legislation that he's celebrating.

PS.  Does anyone doubt that when the Dummy says he has a "tooth problem" he really means that he has a meth problem?

Always a treat to have the moochers who live off my excessive NC tax burden calling the hand that feeds them "cult-like" and "godless." Words cannot fully express the way I view them.

In the Reagan come back/prosperity years there were shows such as "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."

In Obama's depression years there are shows about buying and selling junk, storage compartments, and garage sale junk.

That is a mighty difference in the propagandist's mind and hence the public's mind.

^5 for the title of the thread because that is exactly what it is. Even 20 years ago a person would be ashamed if they were forced to be on medicaid. Sadly, I think Dennis Miller is right, the country has been fundamentally changed......for the worse.
