Title: poll: why do you watch the primitives?
Post by: franksolich on March 30, 2014, 03:04:50 AM: Another one of those once-quarterly, now semi-annually, polls to gauge the effectiveness of the DUmpster; how well the DUmpster's doing in providing a public service for the Good of Humanity.

Why do you watch the primitives on Skins's island?

There seems to be three principal reasons one might come to the DUmpster:

(a) for amusement and entertainment, as if reading the comics in the daily newspaper; they're such funny little creatures, the primitives;

(b) for oppositional research; to find out what the other side's up to, their attitudes and strategies; or

(c) for anthropological enlightenment.

The first one is probably overwhelmingly the most popular reason decent and civilized people flock to the DUmpster, in pursuit of some humor and laughs.

The second one seems much less important than it used to be, as over time it's become obvious that professional Democrats and liberals don't take the primitives seriously; in fact, they probably laugh at the antics on Skins's island as much as we do.

The third one is rather esoteric, but it's the main reason franksolich has always watched the primitives, given my interest in anthropology and sociology. Skins's island is a self-segregated community remote from any intercourse with the real world, uninfluenced and uncontaminated by other cultures.

The hierarchies, the castes, the fetishes, the taboos, the rituals and ceremonies, the practices, the gods and icons, of the primitives are fascinating, utterly intriguing, as if seeing a society from another universe.

And so the question. Decent and civilized people in ever-increasing numbers flock to the DUmpster to read all about Skins's island and the primitives. There's lots and lots of other sites watching the primitives, but as far as is known, the DUmpster boasts the largest collection of primitivia on the internet.

1.) Dig up the guns and ammo buried through out the countryside.
1a.) dig up the portable wealth.
2.) Get more ammo.
3.) Loot from my list of desirable, absolute must have items and devices that I forgot to buy and preposition, including the portable wealth.
4.) Get more ammo.
5.) Transport all of the above to my retreat in the Palouse Hills.
6.) Get more ammo
7.) Steal some gas, buy some smokes,
8.) Clean out the fighting holes
9.) Can't remember if I turned off the gas, put a hold on the mail, unplugged the iron, the TV.
10.) Drive back home, do #9.
11.) Steal more gas, drive back to Washington. Can't find the retreat. Realize it's in Washington State, not DC.
12.) Can't find gas to steal. Stuck in Bumf***, Ohio.
13.) Guns, Ammo and extra smokes are back in Idaho, nobody cares about the portable wealth (wish I had invested in diamonds, not old issues of Sports Illustrated!)
14.) Wake up. Realize it was all a dream. Wonder where all the magazines came from.

That too, but I'm not sure how to list that as an option.

Decent and civilized people have a moral, spiritual, and patriotic obligation, I think, to expose villainies that threaten our lives, rights, and liberties, and I think that in doing that, the DUmpster provides a valuable public service, for the Good of Humanity.

In fact, that's the motto of the DUmpster, "a public service for the Good of Humanity."

I voted for anthropological purposes, since threads that fall into that line are the ones I derive an immense amount of entertainment.

Think the cooking and baking threads, or how the primitives react to a situation differently than normal people.

There are many species on the island. i.e the Klams and the bullies. Two very diverse groups, yet they seem to always come together as intolerant antagonists towards each other and feed off of one another's perceived intolerance and victimhood.

Then there are the arsonists that seem to be there just to get a flurry of attention by torching the place and made to feel how much power they have watching the ensuing nonsensical arguments.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how they all came to being on the island. Were they originally part of God's plan to destroy the evil on earth by the great flood, only to be washed ashore on a floating island?

Yeah, both the humorous and the scientific aspect of it.

But primitive means of "problem solving" would be a great deal funnier if the consequences didn't fall on the shoulders of innocent decent and civilized people, too.

The primitive's idea of Utopia is a place where everybody just lays around copulating with everybody else, constantly screwing each other's brains out. Clumps of heavy, sweating, greasy bodies squirming and squealing and grunting.

My idea of Utopia is a place where each person alone and solely is affected by the consequences of decisions he makes, conduct he does, not other people.

Watching the different groups is as entertaining to me as flipping through the pages of a Thor Heyerdahl book.

The attacks were based on jealousy, greed, envy, and contempt for the other islanders who were only interested in doing their own thing without bothering the other islanders.

If that's not Skin's Island, I don't know what is.

A true commune. On an island where there is plenty of wood for shelter, the land is arable, fresh water etc. Then see how long it would take them to cast out the Loconuts, Lady Freedumb, UGP etc. Hell even give them basic shelter and start the farm plots for them. Within a week 99% will have appointed themselves the bong maker, doobie roller, artist, poet laureate, journalist, womyns historian or supervisor of the island. I bet it would a reality television hit. Tune in next week to watch the gungeon tribe wipe out the spiritual forum.

Reading the DUmp is exactly the way it felt as a child, leaning against a fence at the zoo, watching all the antics on Monkey Island.

You could toss peanuts across the moat and then watch them scramble and scrap over the prize or wade delicately into the water
to retrieve the ones that fell short.

There was always something happening on Monkey Island.

It was the most entertaining part of a trip to the zoo.

The parallels with Skimmer's loony bin are astonishing.

My mole tries to post there a couple times per week to get my numbers up. If after an election, if there is another forum-wide meltdown, I will have a viable account that will allow me to log in and have a look see.

But I watch them for another reason: DU will telegraph when the rat party will go violent. We will know months ahead of time just by reading DU. The rats will not say anything out loud bit they will communicate to the masses their unspoken talking points. And we will read word for what word what they masters say.

I like to discuss politics with strangers. DU gives me warning which talking points the libs will fall back on. And, they get so upset about obscure issues, I would know of those in no other way.

The entertainment value is a bonus.
