Title: Repair or Replace?
Post by: mrclose on March 29, 2014, 06:20:12 PM
Recommendations please.

My PC went down months ago.

I wasn't pressed for a solution on the issue because at the time I was almost blind.

When possible, I have been using a friends PC.

I just had cataract surgery so I am able to go back to my own smaller monitor instead of having to 'stand' 6 inches from my friends 60" monitor.

My questions:

I have one blown cap and my hard-drive (through my own clumsiness) is completely disconnected.

I can do two different things with the PC:

(1) Take it to a repair shop and have them replace the blown capacitor and hook my hard-drive back up or ..

(2) Purchase a new PC.

I would prefer getting my PC back running because the hard-drive has a lot of 'stuff' on it that I want.

Which option do you think would be the least expensive .. repair or purchase?

Thanks Everyone

I forgot the critical stuff: (My PC is a Vista 64bit  FX4710-UB802A  2Q9300 quad core with a SATA ll 640 GB hard drive)

Here is a picture of the board and blown cap (top right next to the cable) .. (http://i42.tinypic.com/ae5g60.jpg)
