I was a guest on a radio show today. What a hoot!
Syndicated show I never even listen to. They called me a couple of days ago to "be prepared." The producer called me this morning and i was on hold for 30 minutes until they put me on air. It was segment about cartooning for The New Yorker. I was on with a few famous New Yorker cartoonists...my angle was the dude who has never had a cartoon accepted by the New Yorker. I'm not sure if this was good or bad, but it was fun. Me and a few famous New Yorker cartoonists. They wanted my perspective about what it is like to submit cartoons and get rejected. Funny. A few friends and family actually heard the show.

1. So, what IS it like?...
How many have you had rejected. Can you post one of your favorites?
I'm impressed; rejected or not.

5. They've all been rejected!
That was part of why I was a guest...Mankoff and Zeigler got rejected a bazillion times but finally made the cut. I didn't. My angle was that I've been to cocktails with Lee Lorenz and my aunt has had many illustrations published and a family friend has done many covers, yet "connections" mean nothing at The New Yorker. Mankoff and Zeigler confirmed that. Made me feel better.
I teamed with a writer several years ago. I drew, she wrote the gags...still didn't get anything accepted. It's a tough nut to crack.

Rob is only now celebrating being a failure and a laughingstock?
Gosh,he is about 30 years at least too late.

In other words, he drew the speech balloons, and she added the words.

9. What a f**king trip! My kid"s friends are posting about it on Facebook!
Too funny. I didn't know anyone actually listened to this show. My son's friends think I'm some sort of rock star. Who the hell listens to radio anymore?
I dunno.
I haven't seen anything lately, but I'm sure there's at least a couple hundred million people in America who listen to the radio, if not more.

No they don`t McGrath the blunder dog...they think you are a stupid loser.

Finally Rob receives the recognition he deserves:as an utterly hopeless loser.
He's a cartoonist whose art is execrable, and whose humor is non-existent.
His lifetime of rejections is testament to that.
Rob is a lot like Pitt, unemployed, unemployable, lacking any marketable skill, living off his wife's labor and whatever may have been earned by his family's productive generation.
Of course McGrath is stupider than Pitt, and a lot more sober.

Uh, not quite. He can always be a forklift driver, having had experience in that profession.
When Atman was just out of high school and wanted to move north from Florida to where his family's money's at, in New England, his mother, a major stockholder in a certain Massachusetts corporation, got him a job there.
He didn't even have to start on the bottom, on the assembly-line. He was given a soft cushy sit-down job from the beginning.
This was circa 1978-1979, in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Okay, I know it's not necessarily true, especially with conservative talk shows but since it's Atman, the first thing I thought of was "Video Killed the Radio Star". For the life of me, I can't figure out how to post it. I've never had this problem with a youtube video but I even tried inserting a different one thinking it might be that particular video but that didn't work either. Don't think it's my browser. I use firefox and can post videos on facebook.

It was the first thing I thought of, too. The very first video that MTV ever played, IIRC . . . which DD posted above.

Waiting for my beloved 'Survivor' I saw a 60 Minutes story on these New Yorker cartoons and how they pick them. Omgosh, they are not even funny.

They can be if they just followed Dave's Law.

...every New Yorker cartoon -- every one -- could be made funnier by replacing its caption with:
"I'm going to kill myself."

Did they ask you about your kiddie porn pics? (http://sync.democraticunderground.com/10024738699)
You have to hand it to the DUmmies - they're so worthless, they get put on TV and radio to highlight their failures. And then they brag about it.

Or his big man-boobs.
He'd put the BainsBane primitive in the shadow.

Guessing he would make a good replacement for Scott Ritter if Will the Drunk needed another collaborator.
