2. Thank you!

It is cool, I think, that the first piece I sold is one I call "Mandela".

It is made with a piece od Dark glass in the shape of Africa that I found. I rapped in wire and made a heart using the wire on it. Then I took two crystals, to represent Diamonds and then very small beads in the colors of the South African flag along with metal beads to match the wire on the glass to make the "chain" part. They took a pic of it to put in my artic portfolio. I need to get a digital copy of it to post.

A broken green coke bottle, some used hay baling wire and I'm an artist.

I'd be more interested in seeing a photo of the buyer, rather than the object.  :p

I sure hope she hasn't collaborated with Calpig.  I sure don't want to read anything about Knightravens seed.

As an addendum to the thread concerning MineralMan's admonishment to the monkeys:

DUmmies, this is why we laugh at you. You claim to be the smartest people on the planet, yet you champion the cause of a manifestly ill woman who moved to another state for the specific purpose of leeching off the welfare system. I vouchsafe that you think the welfare system is there for anyone's taking, at any time, but (speaking for myself) the welfare system, including private welfare, is for people who genuinely need it. This would include, but is not limited to: battered women, families experiencing unemployment, families under extreme stress, or otherwise in highly unfortunate and impossible situations. Your hero Amber, whom you seem to regard as on a Pelosi-esque journey of self-discovery, is actually diverting resources that are better spent elsewhere. Moreover, assuming as you all do that Amber suffers from PTSD (hint: she's not), she would be far better off in the care of medical professionals. Such care was available to her as part of the response to the weather event that supposedly caused her PTSD, but evidently that was the one smidge of welfare that she elected not to consume.

We laugh at you because you regard the fashioning of a piece of glass into "artwork" as worthy, more worthy than seeking the help that Amber actually needs. It would be fine if Amber was something of a mascot for you, but in reality, she IS you. Her current situation is ROMANTIC and DESIRABLE to a good many of you. You have deluded yourselves and each other that Amber's sweaty, stinking journey of reincarnation into Swap Meet Sally is a template for others to follow. While education may be expensive, and good jobs may be hard to come by, the pursuit of a dignified life is far cheaper to most than the psychic costs of giving up, of looking for trash to transform into "art."

What makes us different from you is precisely that: we (and I am sure that I speak for us all) would sooner die than cast our fates to the wind and accept for ourselves the lifestyle that you think everyone wants. I am sure that makes us "squares" to you, or "sheeple," or whatever. Here comes a concept you can't understand: we don't care what you think, not because we are hardheaded or brainwashed, but because we reject the premises of each of your arguments.

I don't expect you to understand anything I'm saying, not when you are enraptured by the fact that a mentally ill, essentially illiterate woman has earned $20 by turning trash into "art." Go and live that life. Just don't ask others to underwrite it.

Why do I get the feeling that the "purchases" are made with tax dollars and the so called art hits the dumpster in a matter of seconds?

Why do I get the feeling that the "purchases" are made with tax dollars and the so called art hits the dumpster in a matter of seconds?

     Absolutely true story:

Once in Santa Fe I noticed that there were three women sitting on the sidewalk with "handmade" jewelry spread out in front of them. There
was a fourth spread, but no one sitting in front of it. Each piece of jewelry had one of three (relatively high) prices. My companion told me that the fourth spread was managed by a woman who was not there at the moment: she was off "helping" the man who bought it.

     You can guess the rest.

Government mental institutions are sensitive about photography inside the wire.

When I was in school, MD 20/20 was looked down upon by most of my fellow scholars.

Ripple was by far the wine of discerning drinkers.

Went to one of those high brow places I see.  Now back in the 'hood the chant was:

‎""What's the word? Thunderbird!
What's the price? Fifty twice!
What's the reason? Grapes in season!
Who drinks the most? Them colored folks!
What's the reaction? Satisfaction!"

Um, mmm, mmm.

Where I grew up, we enjoyed the fine bouquet of a bottle of Falstaff. Pop kept a case in the garage. Of course, I preferred the top of the refreshment list - SCHLITZ. But that required a trip into a liquor store, or an older brother.

When I was in high school my favorites were Annie Green Springs or Boone's Farm. Can't stand sweet wines now. I only drank MD 20/20 a few times because it made me puke every single time. I could drink an entire bottle of whatever wine was my choice at the time and be just fine, but I could only drink a half a glass of that MD gut rot and I'd be sick the rest of the evening. I'm convinced they put Ipecac in it or something. It was much easier to get someone over 21 to buy it for us then because laws were practically nonexistent.

When I was in college, scholars aged 18-21 could legally buy beer, but only 3.2% alcohol. At 21, you could buy "high power" beer.

With a little effort, one could nearly achieve Will Pitt's blood alcohol content on 3.2% beer.
