This is actually a "best of" thread:

I've been on this site since Ariana Huffington owned it in the early 1990's (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024696910)

and one thing that was told several time in that period that the goal of conservative Republicans was cheap labor
now don't you think it is time to shove it down their throats?

Early 90's?  :mental:

Let the fun begin:

9. Ah, memories. Those of us who were here in the mid-80's

still recall the debates we had over Nicaragua and El Salvador.

It annoyed the folks who were here since Watergate...I understand the fur really
flew then. And that was before broadband!

19. Remember the Dewey Defeats Truman thread?

Epic lulz there. So many people ended up on Earl Warren's iggy list that day! (http://www.democraticunderground.com/emoticons/rofl.gif)

20. And remember when we were online for the Shot Heard Round the World?

The Dodgers Win The Pennant!

I can still see the 1950-era HTML on the Sporting News website. Took forever for those
Maypo ads to load.

17. I believe the actual owner at that time was Ariana Underground

she married Franklin Roosevelt Democratic in early 2000 and they hyphenated their names and named the website after them. Thus Democratic-Underground.
I do believe that the Democratic-Undergrounds do not favor shoving anything down anyone's throat without full consent of the shovee.

34. I was here when the epic flamewars between the Greek and Trojan apologists took place.

I was almost run off this site for suggesting that both sides were dirty imperialists and that it was not about Helen at all but about OIL. Olive oil, that is.

Well, put a million monkeys together, a million Commodore 64's as well, give them enough cheetos, weed, and Diet Coke , and they can type out something that conservatives like us can laugh with, not at, for a change.

But just once.

Did they even MAKE a million Commode 64's?

Still they were a step up from the TRS 80's from Radio Shack...

My first computer was a Radio Shack CC (color computer) 64 - hooked up to a portable TV.

Sounds like one of Nadin's ancestors penned that one.

The Commodore 64 has sold more than any other computer in history.   The Guinness book of Records estimates that  there were about 30 MILLION units pushed out of Commodore plants. However, most  historians argue that the real number is in the 20 million range.

I had a neighbor with one.  The graphics and gameplay were better than the Tandy 1000 I had, but waiting for the games to load took forever.

I still have one in the shed.  No brag, just fact. :rotf:   A friend found it cleaning out an attic.  Has the leather covers, monitor, and a floppy drive.   I also have the multi function (green) monitor / Color TV  I used with mine back in the day.  Now I use it as a spare room 13" color TV.  I used it with the C64 then with a "Wells American 80286" IBM PC clone made in SC (it ran IBM DOS not MS).  The C64 was great, I never had a drive, I used cassette tape.  You could literally make and drink a cup of coffee while it loaded.   :whatever:

I had one in HS.  Yeah, the cassette drive was slow, and the disk drives cost more than the computer did--about $500-600, IIRC.

But it was pretty cool what I could do with them compared to the Trash-80's or even the Apple II's.
