Title: Question 4 baseball fans (ballpark regulars)
Post by: ReardenSteel on July 01, 2008, 03:17:38 PM
Hey sportsfans.

First off, I know I know I know... I have (from time to time) mocked the sport of baseball. So be it, in any case I need your help. A wee bit hypocritical of me perhaps but I offer no defense of friendly ribbing. I do submit that what I have not done, is jump in every baseball thread to mock the game or offer regular undesired, unqualified or flame baity opinions. (as some are wont to do when anyone starts a thread on soccer or NASCAR or any sport outside the Holy Trinity of football/baseball/basketball)

That said, my brother and new sis-in-law (or as I like to call her, my "ex-fiancee-in-law") are visiting for the 4th of July weekend. I'm taking them to a Reds game and as luck would have it, it's "free Ken Griffey Jr. Camo Mesh Jersey Night".  :-)  :-)  :-)

So my question, ballpark regulars of CC, is...

Just how early do we need to show up to be in the "first 20,000" fans???

... I think it would be a swell souvenir as they are making quite trip.

fwiw- Baseball is fine and dandy and I do watch the playoffs. I'll also see a rare game as the stadium is a mile and a half away, though I just consider that to be beer and hot dogs with a few thousand friends.

I would get their an hour or so before first pitch.

Since the game is on the 4th, which is on a Friday and since they probably will have fireworks after the game I expect it will be a sell out.

Wow that's early.

But I should have said, the game we will see is Sat. the 5th actaully and it's against the Nationals to boot. (still a holiday weekend though)

Holiday weekend traffic is gonna be brutal.  I'd say show up a half-hour to an hour early.  If nothing else, it gives you an opportunity to take in the attractions at the ballpark.  And as every fan knows, you won't be allowed to leave the park without first buying one of those giant foam #1 fingers.

God how I love going to the ballpark.  Have fun at the game!  :cheersmate:

Good stuff. I'm too close to worry about traffic. (taking backstreets) Plenty early seems to be the theme tough. It so happens, I don't have a Reds shot glass in my shot glass collection. hmmm.

Thanks, I hope it's fun as well. Should be a game that Cincinnati can win for a change!  :-)

In Los Angeles you had better get to ANY event, especially Dodgers' games at least 90 minutes early.

I was going to mention that it depends on the city. For the D'backs, an hour early is fine. But I imagine with the more popular teams, 90 minutes to 2 hours would probably be more realistic. I don't know what the Reds' attendance is like.

I go to one or two games a year and it's never been a big deal traffic-wise or crowd-wise in general. But those were not Holiday weekends and there was never a promotion going on. Heck I saw the Bengals tow years ago and it was easy breezy. We walked in 20 minutes early to a sold out game and were siting in a stadium about 8% full. (just sort of magicly filled up about 10 minutes after kickoff)

Thanks all. I have a course of action in mind. Givin' it's the last place Reds vs the woeful Nationals, I'll take a shot at 45 minutes or so early and if we are not amoung the first 20,000, then we can always turn around and have a quickie beer at a cheap bar then show up at gametime.

Thanks again folks.
