The real reason being overweight is bad for your health:

if you are overweight, the default diagnosis for any problem you are having is that you are overweight and the problem will go away if you lose weight.

Well, let's see... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024644716)

To name but three very common health problems generally caused by obesity. DUmmies are the most sanctimonious people in the world when it comes to diet. We hear how utterly organic they are, and how they shun any and all of the typical Amerikkkan diet. Therefore, it's hard to understand how any of them could be the slightest bit overweight?

In any case, hedgehog (probably well-named), YES, most problems can be traced to diet and its effects. It's OK, though: in the Bush* years I recall that most of you blamed your fat asses on him and the anxiety he caused you. Ipso facto, any heath problems you have are - voila - ALSO Bush's fault. We all know that you people will tolerate anything so long as there is someone else to blame, so belly up to the donuts!

What a weird statement.

If you are out of shape, the default diagnosis for any problem you are having is that you are out of shape and the problem will go away if you are no longer out of shape.

If you are drink too much, the default diagnosis for any problem you are having is that you drink too much and the problem will go away if you quit drinking too much.

This could go on and on. What a breakthrough!!

The issue is that the doctor's office is where the buck stops. You can blame Republicans for whatever you want, but when you're sitting there in the drafty gown on the butcher paper, you are alone with what and who you are. Hedgehog, like most DUmmies, resents and dreads any situation wherein personal responsibility is even implied. Deal with it, hedgehog.

Why is it that fit people spend so much time in the gym ?
Floorspace is limited, memberships aren't.

Two hosts of a syndicated morning radio show in my area had a representative from PETA on, touting the benefits of being a vegetarian.

After she left, one remarked,  "Boy, she wasn't skinny like you'd expect a vegetarian to be, she was a hefty heifer."
The other one replied,  "That's because there ain't no meat in doughnuts!"   :rotf:

So, yeah, I guess Cheetos and Krispy Kreme qualify as a vegan foods, too.

Here's a few ways to tell if you might be fat:
You might be fat if you feel fat.
You might be fat if you think you're fat.
You might be fat if people you think are fat are skinnier than you.

You might be REALLY FAT if:
You're banned from "all you can eat" buffets.
You can rent out your back as billboard space.
Things get lost in the folds of your skin.
You have to file an environmental impact report before you go for a walk.
You can eat an entire birthday cake...IN ONE BITE!
You buy your clothes in the camping section of the store.
You have more chins than a Chinese phonebook (in fact, you chins have chins!)

You get the picture...

The DUmmies believe in defining the self as what you want to "be", not what you "are". Reality be damned. Case in point: their embrace of cross-dressers and transtesticles.

The Ron Jeremy wannabe primitive needs only to live as a thin person, and he "is" thin. What does that stupid doctor know, anyway?

I am reminded of another DUmmy who had a problem with reality.

The dream:

Buff Walrus, Super Sysadmin and Master of the Remote Control

The reality:

Doug Bulna- unemployed and unemployable. Shows up for job interviews wearing only a hat and necktie

I think there is more to Hedgehog's issues than merely being fat.

These are just a very small number of OPs by this one.  There are many, many more.  AND, if someone else makes an OP about a real/imagined ailment, Hedgehog either has it, has had it, or has a relative who is similarly afflicted.

They are truly a sad lot.

New Weirdness: my right hand tends to be cold, my left hand is warm!

My right hand is in use, my left hand just sitting on the desk. This has happened while working with the mouse and writing in a notebook.

Damn, I take a lot of pills!

I've picked up a lot scripts over the years for various chronic conditons, and added Vitamin D, Fish oil, calcium etc. I look like a hypochondriac, but I'm feeling a lot better! I notice if I forget one pill or another. Thank heavens for super size pill of the day boxes, though!

Anyone ever have a suspicious mole checked out?

What I'm afraid of is being told it looks odd, then being told to come back in two weeks for a biopsy, then being told to come back again to have it removed. This is a small mole that I think has taken an odd turn. What are the chances that it will simply be removed and biopsied if the doctor agrees with me?
My first thought when I read the subject line was that this DUmmy reports suspicious moles, and the DU admins immediately ban those suspicious moles, even if they are not in fact moles.

edited for clarity

Working in a hospital I am constantly amazed by insanity that people spout to justify their lifestyle and excuse their health problems.  Mind you, I work in an ICU, so my patients are rarely the picture of good health.  "Explanations" I've heard from my patients include:

-My blood sugar runs high, its okay if it is 280, my body is used to it.  It won't hurt me.
-I was healthy before I came to hospital, it is all these medications that you are giving me that is causing these problems
-(After a patient starts showing signs of a stroke) Oh, I don't need a CT, this happens all the time.  I just need to take a nap, that will fix it.

Most often, the most obvious solution is the right one.  For most people, an unhealthy lifestyle can be correlated pretty easily to health problems.  Yes, there can be other reasons, but is it really reasonable to order an ultrasound of the kidneys to look for issues contributing to high blood pressure when a 20 pound weight loss could start lowering it?
