Are Progressives Ready for 'Political Revolution' with Bernie?
https://www.commondreams.org/headline/2014/03/10

With lots of agreement, some divergence, and plenty of questions still to consider, progressives weigh in on a 'Bernie Sanders for President' campaign. (Photo: DonkeyHotey / cc / Text added)

Vermont's Independent Senator Bernie Sanders has now said he is 'prepared to run for President of the United States' in 2016, but that he wants to hear from progressives across the country about what such a run should look like if and when he makes it official.

In interviews with both The Nation and Time magazines published last week, Sanders spoke in the most specific terms yet about why a serious progress candidate is necessary, what the goals of such a campaign should be, and the inherent challenges involved. And even though the self-described democratic socialist admits he's not 'the only person out there who can fight this fight'—Sanders says the moment demands what he repeatedly calls a "political revolution."

Speaking with Time's Jay Newton-Small, Sanders said, "We need candidates who are prepared to represent the working families of this country, who are prepared to stand up to the big money interests, who are prepared to support an aggressive agenda to expand the middle class. And I am prepared to be that candidate."

And on two key issues—running against the as-yet-undeclared but clear Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton and the question on whether he would run as a Democrat or as an independent candidate outside the two dominant parties—Sanders was descriptive if not conclusive in his answers.

After which they spend a great deal of time cheering, not only for Bernie, but for Bernie to formally affiliate himself with the Democratic party.

I, for one, whole-heartedly applaud their support for the antediluvian translucent senator...particularly for him as a Democrat in their party's primary wherein he will openly drag them to the left if they are to entertain any hope of gaining the vote of the Proglodyte base.

Of course, I could also be happy with a Hillary candidacy.

Snugs, be very careful what you wish for--you might get it.

'Course, I think along the lines of the article I posted a couple of weeks ago about Hillary being too sick to run.  It'll be someone else--O'Malley, Cuomo, Biden, Warren ( :rotf: ).

A Sanders would be nothing but good for us.

A) assuming he runs as a Dem, either his supporters or Hillary's will get purged after the primaries.

B) assuming he runs as a 3rd party candidate, DU will tear itself apart over it.

I think it would be great if Hillary ran on the D ticket and Sanders ran on the I ticket in the general election.   :-)

Within the year the DUmmys are going to have many threads about repealing the 22nd Amendment. To not let this failure of a president have a third term would be...wait for it....

I've asked this question before, and it pops into my mind every time the DUmmies endorse anyone close to the age of Sanders.

Sanders was born in 1941, McCain 1936.  That would make Sanders *about* the same age at swearing in that McCain would have been.

The DUmmies were all over McCain's age, saying he was too old.

My question is this: Why not the same objection for Sanders?  Can they not see this inconsistency?

This would be the best possible outcome  :fuelfire:

It would be wonderful if we could wire them for sound, reality show style, so that the low-information proles can hear what these treasonous bastards really think (of the voters, of the country, of each other, etc. etc. ad nauseum).

If Sanders runs independent, then the DUmmies won't be able to voice their support on Skin's Island.  They are required to back Democrat candidates.

That would probably cause the jury system to shut down because of all the hurt feelings.  Nothing better than watching the DUmmies fighting amongst each other.

An Obama third term ?  Well, that is what Obama "promised" in his campaigns.
