3. They are very simple, yet quite nice
The mushroom is somewhat dry and is shaved over another dish similar in fashion to the way you would use a really nice aged cheese. There are other varieties of mushrooms that are used in a similar fashion and have their own complex aromas and flavors as well.

11. Look for truffle butter.
It's sold in very small quantities but not terribly expensive. A little bit goes a long way and you will absolutely get the truffle flavor (which is very unique).

4. Pesto. I have never had it. it sounds good, but I am not sure

5. Pesto is really super easy to make
I do it in a small food processor several times a month..
Just take fresh basil leaves and process them up with olive oil, garlic and a bit of salt. Traditionally you are suppose to add lightly toasted pine nuts and Parm. I frequently don't use the nuts. It's also very forgiving in terms of substituting with walnuts or other nuts.
I freeze my pesto without the Parm in ice cube trays this way I always have a cube or two handy.

8. There are some OK prepared ones on the market
Depending on where you live, a decent-sized supermarket may have several refrigerated as well as jarred varieties of pesto: I'd go with the refrigerated varieties if you can find them.

6. Kouing Aman
I have been dying to try one of these pastry for years. Trader Joes is now carrying them in the freezer section so I now have box in my freezer. My kitchen is getting painted as I write so I will be up and running by tomorrow evening. The remodel has been a long slog but very very worth it!
Anywho...I am gonna pop those babies out and let them rise and bake em up!
And who knows...I may even try to make them myself someday...

7. Home Made Fig Newtons
I ate some fig newtons made by a local bakery and they were so tasty, 100 times better than the kind from the supermarket. I want to make a batch of them. I watched a video on Youtube about how to flip the dough, haven't been to the store to get some dried figs yet. But I will be making this recipe soon.

10. You could make this pretty easily, SummerSnow.
Filet's are expensive but watch for a sale. The up side is that every single bit is edible.
And the gravy would require some work, but shouldn't be too hard.
I'd have mine with some garlic mashed potatoes and maybe asparagus.
Yummly!

12. I would like to go to Jiro's place in Tokyo.
He is the focus of the wonderful documentary, Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
He is 85 and I am probably never going to get to fulfill my dream.
Other than that, I am fortunate to have been able to eat so much wonderful food in my life that I really want for nothing.

17. I was delighted to find banana leaves in the markets down here.
I have made a few slow cooked roasts wrapped in banana leaves and am going to try tamales.
Would love your recipe for tamales in corn husks. I am still somewhat intimidated by them.

23. OMG!! I had to look that up and I'm not sure I am glad I did.
Haven't had sweetbreads scrambled with eggs since I was a kid. (http://www.conservativecave.com/Smileys/default/drool.gif)
What's the appeal of tamales? Isn't that poor people food? The DUmmie acts like it's all exotic and stuff.
And pesto? It's not going to exactly rock your world, DUmmie littlewolf. Pick up a jar, expand your horizons. Roland is a good brand.
She had to look up ambergris? Who doesn't know that's whale vomit?
Ambergris
Ambergris is a solid, waxy, flammable substance of a dull grey or blackish color produced in the digestive system of sperm whales. Freshly produced ambergris has a marine, fecal odor.
AmbergrisSounds like an ingredient for that Shawarma stuff.

It was once thought the ambergris was ejected by mouth. As of now, the argument seems to be weighted toward the back end of the whale.
The second picture's from one of yours truly when I was visiting a friend down in southeastern Nebraska, near where that bitch the transplanted Pennsylvanian Twilight Gardener primitive lives, and not too far from the big guy in Bellevue.(http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g419/Eferrari/spring/Cook-Nebraska_zpsf1cbd16a.jpg) (http://s1100.photobucket.com/user/Eferrari/media/spring/Cook-Nebraska_zpsf1cbd16a.jpg.html)

People eat ambergris? I always thought the perfume companies paid big bucks cause they put it in perfume. Something like $100 a pound. Read that in Teenage Tales back in Jr High.People buy bottled water with an expiration date. Go figure.
Got curious and looked it up, Chris. Seems they have replaced it with synthetic stuff. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambergris)
Now we got people eating whale puke. :mental: :mental:

I just can't understand that part.

I'm told the bottle can degrade and contaminate the water. Naive is spelled backwards as Evian, after all, so I don't know for sure.
I'll stick with filtered water from my own faucet.
