Bored tonight, I meandered over to the DUmp to peruse the Cooking and Baking forum. I suspect this would make even fransolitch mutter a few whiskey tango foxtrots.

Kedgeree
I made a chicken in a slow cooker. It was great but with just two of us, we have a great deal of leftover chicken. After watching some Downton Abbey this weekend, I was thinking of trying to make kedgeree, except with chicken instead of fish. My plan is to cook some onion in butter and then add a bit of curry powder, chopped leftover chicken, and leftover basmati rice, heat the mixture, and top with chopped hard-boiled egg. Does this sound edible?
No. I'd just roll out some dumplings, toss them in with the leftover chicken, add some onions, garlic and marjoram; then call it a day; but I don't have all the time in the world to ruin perfectly good leftover chicken.

elleng isn't about to admit that she is kedgeree clueless.

1. Haven't checked kedgeree recipe, yours sounds fine.
Been watching Downton, but have curry sauce recipe from James Beard, and use it often for leftover chicken. Sautee onion, garlic, other aromatic vegs around, add can of tomatoes and curry powder to taste. Serve over rice, and with yogurt and chutney.
Curry powder? Not found in good curry. Methinks elleng doesn't like spinbaby.

2. oh, I wonder if Salpicon would work
I found it in Martha Stewart's Menus for Entertaining cookbook. I haven't made it, but it looks absolutely delicious. It's a sort of warm tossed salad of chicken, potatoes, and vegetables, all shredded.
2 medium onions
2 T EVOO
3 whole chicken breasts
4 cloves minced garlic
1 tsp coarse salt
1 tsp ground pepper
1 T sweet paprika
1/3 cup rough chopped parsley
3 scallions, chopped
1 pound green beans, trimmed
2 pounds carrots
5 pounds white potatoes
vegetable oil (for frying grated potatoes)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
I'll transcribe the directions if you want them. Basically, the chicken is cooked with one of the onions, EVOO, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and 3 cups of water. Then parsley and scallions are added and cooked for 5 minutes. Shred the chicken and set aside. Grate the carrots, add the remaining onion sliced thin, set all aside and chilled. Potatoes are grated, dried in towel, and fried til golden brown, drained. Then everything is tossed together and served immediately.
Tossed hash brown chicken salad. Great balls of fire!

I read this thread after reading a thread about making "Stewli". Sounded like "stooly" to me. No wonder so many DUmmies are single. I know I'd hate to have to eat DUmmie Cuisine.

I'm the kind of guy that will eat about anything, from hamburgers to whatever, but I generally will not eat anything I can't pronounce. It usually tastes about as good as it sounds, and it all sounds like shit to me!
Shred the chicken, add mayo, diced sweet pickles, maybe some pickle juice, spread it on toast.
Chicken salad sandwich, in under 5 minutes.
Or, DUmmie could dice the chicken, add noodles, and have chicken noodle soup.
Or, shred the chicken, add barbeque sauce, and serve over steamed rice (works good with pork, too.)
Damned DUmmies can make a shit sandwich sound complicated!
(Note to grasswhine: REAL cooks don't need detailed ingredient lists, they cook from the heart, not a cookbook)

5 pounds white potatoes
It's not really a surprise that the grasswipe primitive would suggest a recipe that requires several pounds of potatoes, since she grows them in between the layers of her coats.

How do you do chicken in a slow cooker/crock pot without it being a soup or stew?

Whole pieces in a braise with a small amount of liquid.
I tried slow-cooking cut up pieces of chicken and it came out dry as hell. I gave up and went back to using said recipe to marinate my chicken/pork and grilling or sauteeing.

I have done a roast chicken in a slow cooker before. It was alright. It can be done, but it isn't the same as in the oven.
