Tell these 10 states: Don't let Medicaid take my house after I die
Tell these 10 states: Don't let Medicaid take my house after I die
Federal government doesn't like the idea but can't stop it
Thanks to the new health care law, millions more people now qualify for free health care under an expansion of the Medicaid program. Unfortunately, some of those people may end up having their homes seized by their state goverment after they die. Specifically, that risk applies to new Medicaid recipients 55 and older who live in 10 states: California, Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, and Rhode Island.
<much more to this excerpt, plus another one at the DUmmy link - the whole thing is quite long>
This looks to be one more in the list of unintended consequences that the DUmmies must learn to live with. As their heroine Pelosi once said "...pass it to find out what's in it..." or something similar.

Estate recovery is the case in every state. So they've expanded the age of coverage and estate recovery followed suit. Libs love income coming into gov't coffers. They may complain in order to act as though they care about those effected, but they won't do anything. Libs are greedy and they see dollar signs going to their god; the gov't.

It's redistribution of wealth. DUmmies love that stuff.

But on the other hand, one has to remember that many primitives--the truemud primitive comes to mind, but there's lots more who've also admitted it--are counting on getting a big chunk of money after their despised parents die.
And as their God Government would ostensibly use the seized money to make up for medical costs associated with their deceased progenitors, and not on more freebies for the primitives, I can very well see the primitives will.....not.....like.....this.....at.....all.

This is getting too routine.

Not only that, they will impotently bitch, moan, scream, and complain for the rest of their lives. Which, if they get really worked up about it, may not be very long (think strokes).

I had one lib online say big deal, the historic percent of estate recovery actually happening is almost nil so it is meaningless.
I asked him what on earth makes him think that the past had any bearing on what happens now after the clock being reset to 0 as of Jan 1st this year.
The medicaid explosion hits state budgets by 2017 and no way to predict now what all that will entail.
Never got an answer.

A government powerful enough to give you everything, is powerful enough to take it all away.
Just another little nugget that we all saw coming, that fell on deaf ears.

The neighbors in the town where I grew up had a child with severe Downs Syndrome. The child lived at a state school during the week and came home to the parent's home on weekends. Upon the parent's death, the child would live at the state school full time. As they were not well off, they agreed to give everything to the state upon their death in return for the state care of their child. They were not happy about it. They felt the state should have taken care of their child for free.
As a consequence, they never upgraded their home. They never maintained anything beyond absolute necessity. The contents was kept to a minimum. They kept no bank accounts or investments of any kind.
They died within three weeks of each other. As soon as the second spouse was deemed too ill to return to the home, the relatives swooped in and took everything that wasn't nailed down and some of which was. The house was in such a deteriorated state, that I doubt the state got much for it as that particular neighborhood ran down as well.
The expenses for that child over the years and until she dies at that state school had to be astronomical. The state didn't get anywhere near recompense. I suspect many DUmmies will do as my old neighbors did... live in squalor simply to avoid letting the state get a dime of their money. Yes, they were Democrats.

One of the neighbors, a real lib, has a reverse mortgage. She does nothing to the property. Says her kids will regret not coming to see her more often. When she goes, the house goes. After talking with this old bat I am pretty sure I know why the kids never come around but that is a whole other story.
Also, for those DU'ers who are living at home off mumsey and popsey's medicam payments, ostensibly taking care of them in their dotage, once they pass, said DUmmies will be shocked to find they are now living in the back seat of the BoboLincoln. :-)

That reminds me, where is the DUmp monkey who sold his dads military plot, was trying to get on disability and was begging for money on wish a doo?

The most expensive medical care is FRREEEEEEEEEE.

Why yes, yes it was. Buick Skylark maybe? But I liked the sound of a Bobolincoln better. Bigger back seat too. :whistling:

15. My personal philosophy is
that if I die with $1.00 in my pocket, I will not have lived as well as I could have. My kids know it. They are on their own after I go toes up.
That's why I don't have a lot of empathy for anyone whose desire to leave something to their children trumps their own common sense regarding their own healthcare.
Heartless? Maybe. I just don't think we should subsidize some spoiled kids' desire to get $$$$$$$$$$ they didn't earn.
:panic: :bolt:

I was wondering that the other day. He seems to have evaporated from DU.

DUmbasses wouldn`t pony up and pay his bills, why would he stay around such greedy bastards?

I doubt many DUmmies own a house to begin with, so they are worried over nothing.

They're worried about not inheriting their parent's property.

I would hazard a guess at the fact you are correct Dori. Many DUmmies work marginal jobs underwritten by what I call the mamma / papa retirement plan (they will cash out when the old folks cash in ie: Wee Willie Wanker). This was one reason the real estate crunch hit so hard. If your entire retirement plan is to sell the old folks home then scoot off to Tahiti and live off the proceeds, well, a sinking market tends to dampen that wet dream. So does having to put them in an assisted living home or otherwise watch their savings go for expensive end of life care and funeral arrangements. One has to love the 'Mom, have you thought of final expense insurance' commercials. :whistling:

You seem imply that DUmmies wouldn't live like that anyway, regardless of whether the house where they live would stay in the family or go to the state...

This couple would have indeed lived differently because they did prior to the bargain with the state according to my parents. They were of an older generation and would be in their early 80s if they were still alive. They weren't your typical DUmmies of today.
-
Mostly just messing with you, Sage, but what you mention is actually the difference between plain old Democrats and the DUmmies.
-
They're worried about not inheriting their parent's property.
They can just think of it as an inheritance tax.

That is hilarious. We all know how much they love inheritance taxes. :rotf:
