Internet trolls are also real-life trolls
Why do some people find so much pleasure in harassing others online? A new study attempts to shed light on the behaviour of internet trolls

Look DB, you did it to yourself. And you said a bunch of stuff about conservatives that were lies. For that, you deserve to be punished.
Let this be a warning to others.

Oh my.
Remember, walrus-face copied-and-pasted this; it's not his experience.

Why do some people find so much pleasure in harassing others online? A new study attempts to shed light on the behaviour of internet trolls
My brother and I have a childhood history of internet trolling under our belts. Innocent enough, yes – but disruptive nonetheless. From the same room at our parents’ house, we’d play Yahoo! Graffiti (the internet’s version of Pictionary). The word was “dinosaur†and it was his turn to draw. He’d illustrate a beautifully elaborate rainbow. All the while, players would be guessing “rainbow,†“RAINBOW,†“RAINBOW!!!†and wonder why they weren’t scoring points. I’d wait until five seconds were left on the clock and finally, calmly, contribute “dinosaurâ€. We’ve been banned from Yahoo! Gamerooms until 2016. (With any luck, I’ll have my PhD by then and show Yahoo! that I’m a changed woman.)
A “trollâ€, in internet slang, is someone who deliberately upsets others by starting arguments or posting unnecessarily inflammatory messages on blogs, chatrooms, or forums. In recent years, it’s gotten so bad that YouTube needed to develop a way for users to moderate their video’s comments section, and Popular Science shut down its comments section entirely. Indeed, for trolls, the anonymity of the internet is the perfect playground.
But a new study by Erin Buckels and colleagues at University of Manitoba in Canada wanted to figure out who, exactly, these trolls are. Using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk website, internet users (mostly male, with an average age of 29 years) answered survey questions designed to assess what’s called the “Dark Tetrad of personalityâ€. This tetrad includes narcissism (egocentrism and preoccupation with prestige), Machiavellianism (tendency to deceive and manipulate), psychopathy (lack of empathy and inhibition), and sadism (pleasure of inflicting pain or humiliation on others).
Buckels and colleagues asked about the participants’ internet behavior, including how frequently they comment on blogs and forums. They also gauged how the subjects commented, asking whether they preferred debating, chatting, making friends, or trolling. Of the 418 participants, 59% said that they actively comment on websites. Among those, nearly a tenth admitted that their favorite activity was trolling other users

Well, that's nice.

Look DB, you did it to yourself.
That, he did.
The ugly ****'s got no one but himself to blame.

Yup. Pretty much.

I bet he posted that about the banhammered Bennyboy.

It's obvious walrus-face is trying to quietly sneak back into Skins's island.
But even if he succeeds, a lot of primitives are always going to be wondering.....about a certain issue he pig-headedly refuses to address.
Sooner or later, however, all things come out.

I'm going to have to guess that Doug's foolish actions, and the subsequent documentation of those actions, has caused him some well deserved pain and grief.
Educating liberals is a good thing seeing they are constantly lying. It's much more fun to do it in person where they can be within arms reach when talking down to them. But absent that it can, and should, be accomplished by whatever means are available.

So tell me, DB, would someone who hides a waiting room TV remote be a 'waiting room troll', or just an ass?
-
Mirror, mirror, upon the wall, who is the cleverest one of all?
Then the mirror answered:
"Thou, O Doug Bulna, art the cleverest of all!"
And then you woke up, Doug, because it was but a dream.
Better luck next time, eh fatso?
-
Sooner or later, however, all things come out.
They always do.

14. Hey Dain, have missed your computer and technology articles
My dear quinnox, allow me to fill in some of the gaps in your understanding of current events. For the last 6 months or so, Brother Dain has been busy standing in lines, filling out forms thus unable to post computer and technology articles on the interwebs for your personal entertainment. Also, there is a certain cash flow situation at the Bulna compound that requires his personal attention.
But time marches on and Brother Bulna is looking to recapture his glory days at the funny farm so there is hope.

More than likely if you go at a troll to give him a good ass-kicking, he'd probably cower in a corner, swearing up and down it wasn't him who did the trolling. If not believed, a troll would probably promise not to do it again, never ever.
Yep

Amusing since Doug was one of the most rude and angry posters the DUmp has ever known. ::)

Like posting that you blocked a channel from your employer's TV and then hid the remote? That kind of inflammatory message?

At the DUmp being a troll means posting the truth.

Can I ask a question of Doug Bulna? Why have you been hiding out since you hid the remote control in the waiting room rafters at Gearhart Chevrolet in Denville, New Jersey?

Maybe in the rafters overlooking the lounge hoping to see rethugs go spastic when they can't find the remote. Six months later he's still waiting for the first one to lose it so he can run to the DUmp and report it. He wants to see it live and in person.
Can anyone local go to Gearhart Chevrolet and pretend to throw a hissyfit in the lounge so Doug can come down? It's not in our genetic makeup to do it naturally so throwing a fit would need to be staged.
