PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A new research study from the University of Chicago shows that loneliness poses a significant health risk for older adults.
We’re just beginning to learn about how our mental health can impact our overall health.

A new report looked at over 2,000 people over the age of 50 and looked at whether they were lonely or not. What they found is those who were lonely are at increased risk for all sorts of health problems. In fact, loneliness may be twice as unhealthy as obesity for older people.

The study is interesting because it looks at things like heart disease, cancer, and all the psychological effects that are associated with loneliness and not having fulfilled relationships.

I didn't see any thing differentiating between friends and family. We know that the DUmmies, being DUmmies alienate both friends and family and most of them talk about being lonely quite a bit.

Does their loneliness cause their mental illness, or does their mental illness cause their loneliness?  It's one of those 'Chicken or the egg' things, I guess.

Or are those cause by them being liberals in the first place?

DUmmies are an angry bunch, which fuels their alienation and loneliness. They shun anyone who does not conform to their beliefs.

What kind of loneliness are we talking?? Or what kind of relationships? man/woman/partner kind? One can be in a crowded room and be lonely. Sometimes being alone(physically at a given  moment). I mean dang I have been living at the farm since November by myself, and I am not lonely. Why do some people think that being in a "relationship" in life is fulfilling?? I have had more guys at work call me dear, sweetie, honey all the time, doesn't mean I want to jump into bed with them....(well maybe one or two :-)), but I digress. I would like to be in a "relationship" , but if I am not, that is okay too....
