What's for Dinner, Thurs., Feb. 13

For many of us in the northeast and the south, it's a snow day. Good time to do some cooking, assuming one has power.

I'm going to make a thick, hearty tomato sauce and serve it with tortellini.

Does this mean the Queen of Soup is replacing poor, feeble Lucinda?

Some of us still have memories of her puke stew:

Anyone who could create that nightmare and then suggest that someone eat it has a hard heart.

The hateful, vicious old crones in the cooking group need a more ruthless, demanding boss than the doddering Lucinda.

Dream on.

Skins'll have to pry the hostess-ship of the cooking and baking forum out of dear old sweet Lu's cold dead grasping hands first.

I dunno why she wants the job; she has it, and doesn't do it.

About three out of every seven days of the week, some poor drone has to do the "what's for supper" thread, because it's too much bother, too much time, too much, too much inconvenience for the Queen Bee there.

NJprimitive is up in North Jersey -- hope she got socked with all this storm had to give. She's one of the reasons why this state is unlivable anymore. Believe it or not, NJ didn't used to be a bad joke

Believe it or not, NJ didn't used to be a bad joke.

You mean her stew isn't traditional New Jersey cuisine?

1. Snow day here for me as well.

Home made chicken and lentil soup for me, with sesame bread croutons. Chicken is defrosting right now.

And lots of hot chocolate.

11. I've got chicken..... and I've got lentils.

There are so many different types of chicken and lentil soup recipes. Could you guide me to the one you used?

2. I think I am going to go out.

There are some interesting places to eat here and I haven't been to any yet.

The boat is supposed to get in tomorrow and I want to make them dinner when they arrive, so this is my opportunity to eat out!

4. Split pea soup, cornbread and a salad

We were not supposed to get any snow from the storm that is hitting you; however someone made a horrible miscalculation and it has been snowing here for nearly five hours. I was in town (20 miles away) grocery shopping and nearly wrecked on my way home. I think I lost five years of my life .

7. One pot something or the other

Snowy here today too, and I feel well enough to tinker, so I am digging out some paper and paint and staying out of the kitchen as much as possible!

^^^in case one doesn't know, dear old sweet Lu is a stay-at-home wife, much like the rich bitch the kpete primitive, and the hypochondrial primitive "mopinko."

Bewildered bewhiskered hubby Bill, he with the countenance of a Pennsylvania Dutch farmer, works the night shift at the local sawmill and brings home the bacon.  He caters to her every whim, wish, and caprice.

And like the rich bitch and the hypochondrial primitive, dear old sweet Lu dabbles in "art."

8. gingerbread

I'm baking gingerbread (my favorite cake from childhood) in small heart-shaped pans for friends, topped with real whipped cream.

9. More of the chicken I made last night.

Turned out so so, not exactly the fried chicken that I crave from a place a bit away. Should go there soon and satisfy my urge. It's just that getting out to the street through the alley is such a pain with all the snow.

<<<wonders if badly-fitting false teeth can irritate one enough that one walks badly through snow, concentrating more on the mouthful of soreness, than on the snow underfoot.

12. Seared tuna marinated in soy sauce, ginger, garlic and sesame oil.

Maybe a salad to go with it.

13. beef chow fun

with some bok choi and shitcakes

Okay, okay, I'll admit it.

<<<slightly edited the last primitive's comment.

People like Curt, Nads and Amber should use that picture as a weight-loss visual.
