This is not it. This is simply the OP, with a lot omitted because it is the standard DUmmy health care whine.

A very good friend of mine signed up at health care.gov last week.
blah blah .
Bright side - She will have a very good health insurance plan that will provide her with health care.
Bad side - She truly cannot afford it. Had to ask for help.
blah blah
And now, the favorite DUmmy statement/question when discussing obamacare:tcfrogs (2,892 posts)
1. Won't the subsidy help? Obviously it doesn't help with the short-term cash flow for your friend. Just wondering.
Dear DUmmyfrog. The difference between the subsidy and the financial help provided by the family is this: ALL non-DUmmies are chipping in with our tax dollars for the subsidy instead of the extra being provided by the family of the person you are discussing.
Non-Dummies have jobs, and pay taxes. DUmmies rely on family members (from time to time one with a job surfaces) and tax-paying non-DUmmies and wish a dupe. (edited to add wish a dupe)

27. That's because NC stupidly didn't expand Medicaid when the ACA came into effect.
That's the problem---not the ACA itself.

The states weren't forced to expand medicaid because it was *unconstitutional*. In other words moron, Obama wanted to break the law and got shot down.

Wait until the friend finds out that it will have to shell out $6000+ before its 60/40 payment plan starts to kick in.

She didn't get that plan. I went over there and read the whole thing. I think she got one of the other ones with lower deductibles.
She did get a sizeable subsidy too, according to the OP.

On my other forum a guy who claims to be california claimed to have his insurance improved over owebumacare. He claimed his premiums were cut in half, and that his deductibles were cut about in half.
It's an anonymous forum, and so far he is the only guy to have made such a claim.
I replied that I didn't believe him.
Perhaps he is including in promised subsidies.
The subsidies will be about as liquid as social security benefits.

Just kills me their first response is always on if someone else's money is going to help them out.

Plus isn't the federal money for expansion limited to a certain amount of time? Like 3-5 years, after which the state is on the hook for the cost?
I think I remember that from somewhere which means not expanding made a hell of a lot more sense.

Yes. The Feds would cover it for the first 3 years then it would be on the states to pick up the tab. According to Heritage, it will cost California an additional 4.4 billion through 2022 to expand Medicaid, even with what the Feds pay.
I can't find a good number for how many states that have opted out. I've seen 26 and 36.

In emergencies you can piss on it!

Here in red state hell, it would mean an income tax, which would be political suicide.
Our legislature has occupied itself pretty much full-time for the past seven (7!!) years debating whether to allow groceries to sell wine.
(There was a brief timeout to debate allowing people to take a deer home if they killed it with their car, and to allow employees to have a firearm in their car in the parking lot.)
The wine crisis should good for for a few more years, so I think we're safe from any democrat boondoggles.
Democrats would say it's a do-nothing legislature, as if that's a bad thing. The majority of us are pleased.
I'd like to buy wine at the grocery store, but I'd rather have the issue unresolved, consuming the legislature's time.

They (DUmmies) refer to the lack of reading comprehension of others, almost ALL others, and yet here in the very link provided by DUmmyLex one findsBut the Supreme Court in 2012 struck down the law’s requirement that states expand their Medicaid coverage.
Here, DUmmyLex, to refresh your memory as to what you typed. Perhaps you should have read it all. Lex (33,100 posts)

And I thought we were redneck! We at least sell wine at SafeWay! Still can't buy booze on election day though. The one day ya really, really need it! Especially the last two presidential! I was smart and stocked up on my JW in advance but ended up with "visitors".

Looks like 26 opted in and 25 were smart enough to opt out according to this article (http://healthaffairs.org/blog/2014/01/30/opting-out-of-medicaid-expansion-the-health-and-financial-impacts/)
And I know Dane, if it wasn't for the laws getting in their way everything would just be perfect! ::)

Thanks. Glad to know I wasn't making that up.

Didn't I hear today on Rush that Kalif got wise? Seems they'll go billions in the hole when O'Bummer quits supplyin' the cash for their exchange.
