This is another poor me article brought over from Huff-po. It's already started to catch fire.

Read this, then ask yourself: Isn't it amazing the riots haven't started yet?
I'm a Member of the American 'Used-to-Haves'
I used to have a house. I used to go on vacations. I used to shop at department stores, get my hair done and even enjoy pedicures. Now, I don't. I'm a member of the American "Used-to-Haves."
Now, I'm renting an apartment and I'm desperately awaiting a check so I can pay the rent. Yet, I'm lucky to have an apartment that includes utilities. Despite my college degree from a prestigious college, and solid employment track record, I can't get a job. It's been so long since my corporate days, I now feel unemployable.
My age doesn't help. But I'm as healthy as a thoroughbred, I appear quite young and would gladly accept a basic salary. I'm a bargain! But no. I'm freelancing for $15 an hour these days, but I used to earn $100 an hour. In fact, all the freelance hourly rates have been driven down to $15-30 an hour. To make ends meet, I also work as an aide ($13.75 an hour) and run a small local company. And my annual earnings are under $20,000.
I'm lucky to be in Massachusetts, where my health care is paid for, and fortunate to be of sound health and mind. But on days when I feel hopeless, I can envision myself 20 years from now, living in hardscrabble poverty. Female friends my age who are in similar financial circumstances are terrified of the future. If we can't get decent paying jobs today, there's little hope of getting a corporate job with benefits in the future. And during the past few years as we've struggled, we went through all of our savings, 401(k)s and anything left in the bottoms of our pocketbooks. So we can see ourselves as old, pathetic bent-over women, living in bus shelters, our ragged belongings in supermarket carts.

why she isn't married.
I know. I know. It is a terrible thing to suggest that a woman should rely on a man for economic support.
But I read this
"Female friends my age who are in similar financial circumstances are terrified of the future."
and it seems to me that she, and they, are imagining facing the future alone. Well, wouldn't it be a least a little bit safer to face the future with a loving partner, or even a friend? If she has friends in the same circumstance, well they should consider pairing up - becoming roommates. Hell, that's how Vida Dutton Scudder lived from 1890-1940. She lived with her mother and with Florence Converse, and I think Helena Dudley might have lived with them too for a time.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman's recipe for independence was for women to take in boarders. Get income by renting out rooms.
She might have kept her house had she done that.
Do you realize that you just started the ***** Riots?. :fuelfire:

9. So, would you have said that if a man had said those things?
I can't believe that anyone still thinks the only and best way for a woman to survive in this world is to get married.

10. she doesn't have to marry a man to be married.
And those with pensions could marry friends simply to provide better for them all. More social security, more pension money, better health care in some instances. I also wonder about adoption. Can an adult adopt another adult? That could extend some kinds of benefits, perhaps.
One thing is clear: going it alone is out. O-U-T.

Sounds like DUmmy JaneyVee had it pretty good during the Great Bush Prosperity.
But during the 0conomy, not so much. $15 per hour now, vs. $100 per hour during the GBP.
At least she's lucky to live in Massachusetts, where crushing taxes and regulation led to the loss of her job.
I love to hear about DUmmies in distress!!
I hope she starves to death.

MY US REPRESENTATIVE WROTE ABOUT HIM......sort of. This will probably be in my local newspaper tomorrow.
I Know Why People Don't Like Politicians
By: Congressman Mick Mulvaney
One of the challenges I face as a politician is that a lot of people don’t like politicians. This honestly doesn’t bother me too much. I work with politicians every day, and I don’t like a lot of them either.
But sometimes I do try to figure out why that is.
Scandals certainly have something to do with it, as do politicians who seem to always be losing an ongoing battle with the truth. But are scandals and lies enough to turn a huge percentage of the population against politicians? After all, none of us are completely blameless in our own lives, and folks are probably willing to tolerate a little humanity in their politicians. Perhaps those failings are only part of the problem.
And it was last Tuesday, as I sat in the State of the Union speech, when the final piece of the puzzle struck me.
Politicians refuse to treat people like adults. More specifically, we don’t tell people what they NEED to hear; we tell them what they WANT to hear.
And nowhere was that more apparent than in the President’s State of the Union speech last week.
While some commentators were lauding his compassion for the underprivileged, and others were accusing him of being a dictator, I was sitting in the back of the House Chamber marveling at the President’s overall tone.
He was making life sound really, really easy.
Are you in poverty? All you need is for the government to increase the minimum wage. Struggling to get a job? Solving that is easy, too: the government has these wonderful “high-tech†hubs (two of them!) where jobs are just there for the taking. Worried about your retirement? This new government MyRA will solve everything. It’s easy.
No it isn’t. None of those things is easy. They are hard. And they should be. With the exception of God’s Grace, just about anything of any value must be earned.
The minimum wage won’t raise anybody out of poverty. Do the math: at $10.10 per hour (the President’s suggestion) that’s about $21,000 per year. Poverty for a family of four is $24,000. The truth is that what gets people out of poverty is a full-time job: 97% of people who work full time are out of poverty. The problem is not the minimum wage, it is jobs. And getting a job, and keeping that job, can be hard.
The day after the State of the Union, the President said, “If you work hard your whole life, you deserve a good retirement.†At first, we might be slow to disagree. But, if we are being honest, is it true? After all, what if you work hard, but waste your money? What if you live beyond your means? Do you really deserve as good a retirement as, say, the people who put a little extra money away for years and years.
The President loves to talk about getting ahead by “playing by the rules.†Sounds easy, right? It isn’t. Playing by the rules means much more than staying out of trouble and paying your taxes. It means studying in school, developing good work discipline and personal habits. It means learning to show up for work, learning skills, and staying off drugs. (It even means learning to deal with people that you might not like – a skill the President could work on.) It means putting off some of the things we want today in exchange for having something else later on.
And none of that is necessarily easy.
Here is what the President is afraid to say: politicians cannot raise you out of poverty; politicians cannot give you a satisfying career; and politicians cannot magically give you a cushy retirement. Only you can do those things.
And to all my friends who would immediately respond “Yes, but government can help do those things,†I say: you are absolutely correct. Americans have the right to pursue opportunities, and politicians should work together to find ways to allow people to do that. But we also need to realize that the government can -- and does -- make it much, much harder to do that.
Bottom line: it’s always better to control our own lives. As we strive for things we all want -- success, peace of mind, security, happiness -- we are always better off relying on ourselves, our families, our churches and our communities, more than we are the federal government. In fact, relying on the government to provide us those things can be dangerous: goodies from politicians can be taken away as whimsically and capriciously as they are given.
We have the right to hear the truth about the State of our Union. And the President (and Congressmen) should be honest with us about what that means. That didn’t happen last Tuesday night.
I think I know why people don’t like politicians: because too many politicians treat folks like children. And until we realize that we need to speak to people like adults, we will find it difficult not only to get people to like us, we will find it also impossible to do something much, much more important: fix our country.

The cities are where resources can be gathered to do the most good for everyone. Leaving cities to be run by the rich will mean more of us on the streets left to fend for ourselves.
:orly:
The cities only have resources in warehouses, they don't have any raw resources or any way to replenish those warehouses...unless you count Democrat voters living on handouts as 'Resources.' And if you think you can raid the countryside and make the farmers take worthless scrip in exchange for food, or just take it by force, in some Leninist move, you may find the US rural population somewhat less vulnerable and submissive than the Russian one was.
-
You voted for it dummie. You made your bed, now sleep in it. Sucks to be you. I have zero sympathy. None. Nada. Zilch. You were warned. You called the people that warned you racist, uneducated gun lovers.

Sure. Until the OPM runs out. Congrats. You're almost there.
The cities are where resources can be gathered to do the most good for everyone.
And you're going to build........what? US cities really don't produce that much now. So, when you "take over" the cities, all the food is going to magically transport itself to your local supermarket? Guess again.
Leaving cities to be run by the rich will mean more of us on the streets left to fend for ourselves.
Moving targets are far more challenging.

Who are you going to riot against DUmbass?
You have been given virtually every last thing your greedy heart desires and now are suffering under the inevitable implosion that brings.
Take to the streets like the Greek morons and in the face of NO MONEY stand there and demand more free stuff,it is called wish in one hand and shit in the other, guess which one is full first?
Oh and by the way if you really think you are going to come and get my "stuff" whether it be food from a garden or anything else understand something,I will put a bullet in your skull with no less remorse then a woodchuck eating my vegetables.
Know too that there are a lot more of us than there are of you and we are prepared...good luck mooch.

40. My wife lost her corporate job 3 years ago.
She is a licensed attorney and turns 50 this year. She is still paying off student loans from 25 years ago.
In 3 years of searching for another job, the best offer she's gotten is temp work reviewing documents at $18 per hour, no benefits, nothing longer than 90 days, often months between jobs.
In her last temp job, in order to use the restroom she needed to go to the supervisor, who would escort her, unlock it, and then relock it when she was done. After child care expenses she netted about $11 per hour.
This is our new normal.
The only way this story could get any better is if his wife turned out to be 2007 Father of the Year John Edwards.
Own it DUmmy.

BULLCRAP! Your wife was either the world champion spendthrift/deadbeat twofer who ever lived, one of the worst attorneys to ever walk the Earth, or you were both leading a high-end-gentlemens-club life on a free-internet-porn income for 25 years. Absolutely amazing how months of 5.5% unemployment and only part-time or "McJob" availability was the President's fault between 2000 and 2008 but suddenly became the direct responsibility of "evil, greedy corporations" after 2008.

Rebel but dont revolt. Only use violence when your life is directly at stake.
I say there is a lot we can do. Boycott, buy less, buy local, be as self-sufficient as possible. Stick with the Democratic Party but support candidates and not the party. Dont compromise your principles and vote for the lesser of evils. That only postpones the inevitable. Dont count on violence. They are better equipped and looking for an excuse to tighten controls. And if we were to win via violence, we wouldnt like what we would become.

23. ^^ This is the most effective strategy available to us. ^^
So, here we are half a century later and "Drop Out" is still the ticket.
Personally, I advocate "tuning in, and turning on" as well.
That sounds like a winning strategy.
As to the rioting, it's a losing game plan. In case you need reminding, obama and his regime has failed in their attempt to disarm us. As long as we have the guns, we will rule.
What do you think would happen if you were to riot? Try this scenario: all previously blue states would turn red. The large urban areas, those controlled by the democrat party, would be reduced to ashes, along with the marxist denizen. Unlike the Phoenix, never to rise again.

....and were brutally suppressed by Homeland Security Department working with the NSA and our militarized local Police Departments.
Our government sent a message to those who would gather peacefully to protest the Wealth Disparity,
and not enough of the Working Class & newly Poor were/are hungry enough to have given their support to the handful who actually turned out in the streets.
It is not over yet.
The Death Spiral for the Working Class continues while the 1% have never had it so good,
but some still cling to the "hope" that somebody in Washington still cares.
That veneer gets thinner every day.
It is going to be UGLY.

all 3 branches, the media and law enforcement. OWS was a threat to that control so they crushed it.

This will happen and what will set them off will be seen as trivial but it will be one of those last straw things.
I don't think non cooperation is a viable means beyond rolling strikes with the strikers staying home instead of assembling in a convenient crowd for the militarized police and national guard to destroy.
Crushing OWS was the worst thing they could have done, given the overall mood of the country.
And the fat cats always insist on that sort of reaction.

Unions are to blame for part of that . States are now requiring a lot of care givers to join unions and that means higher costs.
