Oh my.

There is a squirrel in my chimney
Sitting on top of the flue to be exact. All pissed off. I'm not exactly thrilled with this development either.
Any advice? I'm at a loss here and the dogs are going insane.

1. This type of problem usually solves itself eventually...

Is it possible to call animal control?

3. I did
They said unless it was IN the house, there was nothing they would do.

4. I guess I'd, if faced with the same situation, would confine the dogs in another room...
...then open the flue all the way and open the front door. Squirrel will find his way down and out eventually.

8. No freaking way
Those little bastards can tear up a house. The whole 'will find his way out EVENTUALLY' part is not happening.

9. Can you smoke him out?
Light a small fire.
^^^probably not an option, because <<< bets the primitive hasn't cleaned the chimney for a while, making that too dangerous.

Sitting on top of the flue to be exact.
So the squirrel is inside the chimney and can't get out?

I want video when that thing gets in the house. Wonder if they'll have the huevos to try to capture it, or if they'll try to ignore it until it dies in their and then whine about the odor? My guess will be option number two. They'll let it die and then claim PTSD from their trauma.

I've never thought about it, as I've never lived anywhere with a usable chimney.
But it strikes me--wouldn't squirrels up in there be a common problem?

Most people have a screen or mesh covering at the top. http://www.bradschimneysweep.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/rain_cap.gif

This isn't an issue if you're smart enough to have a chimney cap.

When you think about it, the squirrel is pretty darn smart.
He's managed to find the biggest nut in his area, and almost gain access to it via the chimney.
-
I just realized this video makes a great analogy for an uninformed, uneducated person stumbling onto Skin's Island.
The primitives who represent the cast of nuts, and also the biggest nut, are open to your own interpretation.
The group, groups, or person representing the sloth bringing the squirrel back to reality are also open for interpretation.
