So I've been promoted to a management position for the first time.
I've never wielded institutional authority over others. I feel weird and fear being overbearing or inconsiderate. I shall try to be as egalitarian as possible.
"...wielded institutional authority..."? Sounds like Amber asking if it's her turn to mop the floor at the make-work job in the Tudson coffee house.
What kind of pompous ass uses egalitarian in a convenience store environment?

Most companies promote to management someone that just weeks before broke down in tears on the job. ::)
Hint...this "management" position probably carries with it some responsibility they know you will fail miserably at and then it is the parking lot for you.

Neighbor--he can manage the cleanliness of the parking lot, then. :whistling:

It was always a running joke years ago at Cumberland Farms stores, everyone was a manager in training.
Once they got through the "training" most were let go.

Stewart's seems to hang onto the good people. 'Course, most of them move up.

There's always a silver lining.
The idiot may have less time involved with the general public.
The other employees were probably told to ignore him, too.

The zero gravity DUmmy has had a hell of a year.
Meltdown ----> being fed cigarettes by his boss ----> mandatory "random" drug test ----> promoted to "manager"!
Who said America is not the land of opportunity?

Yeah, I had a friend who worked his ass off for a year and a half at a major regional burger chain, years ago. He'd have earned twice as much if they had to pay him hourly, it started to look like the whole 'Management trainee' gig was just a way to put a workhorse on salary so they could dodge the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime rules and minimum wage laws. He finally decided he could do a lot better elsewhere.

I feel sorry for those who have to be managed by the incompetent boob.

Don't worry, odds are it's one of those management positions where no one works under him. They gave him the title so he wouldn't whine about cleaning the toilets as much.

In the unlikely event he really is in some sort of (very) low management position, imagine if you will him taking someone to task for poor performance:Tue Jan 21, 2014, 10:20 PM

I cried at work today...
First time ever.
Then I was late for work because I had to borrow my roommate's bicycle. Then I was written up for being late.
I basically had an emotional break down in front of my managers. They looked horrified and apologized profusely and gave me free cigarettes and a long break.

ZERO bongs.

He said he worked in a hellhole where all his co-workers were on food stamps.
Had a mental collapse at work and scared the hell out of them.
Now getting promoted.
Maybe the mystery of Amber's disappearance is solved.

What a basket case, which could be accurately said about all the primitives. But Wow!

Would YOU put such a creature in a management position? Only place I'd put him is out the door. :bs:
-
Management, after his sobbing hissy fit?
I'm sure he's a manager, alright.
I'll bet his lackeys are Mr. Plunger and Mr. Mopandbucket.

Yeah, this is almost certainly either a lunatic fantasy or a lunatic misinterpretation of a position easier to fire him/her/it from.

Promoted to management for the first time? Sheesh. Something tells me the dummie will revert back to it's roots and lord it over the crew until they either quit en masse or senior management fires it's ass. Assuming this is true. Which I doubt. Dummies lie... dummies lie all the time.

7. 80 cent increase to 9.75 an hour.
The pay sucks. But there isn't much better out there.

Value, but not in the gay sex sense of the word.

I have to hand it to him. That's $9.75 an hour more than most DUmmies make.

Management and being paid per hour?
Someone is messing up the attention seeking bouncy.

What does he do? That's what a shift manager at McDonalds would make.

Yes there is, but one must be worth it.

You have to be really smart to manage one of those mop buckets mounted on swivel wheels.....otherwise you can damage the walls, etc..

Sounds about right. I don't think I've ever seen a cashier at the local Cumby's by my house last more than a couple of months.

That should not too difficult on $9.75 an hour.
