I have contamination-phobia OCD. It is exhausting.
I'm a pretty stereotypical contamination-phobic OCD person. I can't stand having things like bleach, gasoline, detergent, grease, car motor oil, glue or germs on my clothes or skin. I'm constantly washing my hands to the point where they even crack and bleed. I rinse my clothes again and again.
I throw things away if I think they're too contaminated to be worth keeping anymore. I constantly worry that I tracked chemicals or contaminants on to this or that household surfaces. I have a hard time touching sink handles and faucets with my hands.
It's exhausting and even keeps me cleaning and washing until 2 AM, making me sleepy all day.
I can't afford professional psychiatric help - I'm short enough on money as is.
Does anyone have advice?

1. Latex or rubber gloves?
Wouldn't solve everything, but may help some.
What else have you tried?

2. It sure does sound exhausting.
I would search for a clinic where you pay based on your ability to pay.
I used one like that many decades ago, and it worked very well.
I'm not sure how you would go about finding such a clinic, though. Perhaps calling medical schools in your area to see if they have such a thing.
These are places where folks who are becoming licensed family therapists do their training, usually the last year when they see clients, before they get their licenses.
My therapist really turned my life around.
Good luck!

The DUmmie sounds miserable. My advice, which is good for all DUmmies is down the road, not across the street.

Quit sticking your fingers in and on gross stuff.
-
Try one of these . . .

The DUmmy should just keep posting in the DUmp loonybin.
Tons of good advice will come flooding in.
Skimmer's nuthatch forum is a sure cure for lunacy.

Well in joining the DU, I would say that you will fit right in.

You really should see someone about that.

I thought Obamacare was supposed to cover that for free. You mean it doesn't?

First of all, I wouldn't ask my fellow dumpmonkies for help, they are all having....let's just say; issues.
I would recommend going to Tucson. Apparently they have an experimental program, and they even supply housing and jobs while your being treated.
There is also a place, called the Sally, to get some "hands on" exposure therapy for what's bugging you. It's a kind of "hair of the dog that bit you" therapy.

Jumper cables. Hook them up to your car first, then put one clamp in each hand and touch one to each temple at the same time. Since you're OCD and pointless details matter to you, let's go with black (-) in your left hand, and red (+) in your right. Repeat as necessary.

Shouldn't the car be running? :???: :whistling:

Only if the garage door is closed.

Only if I actually cared about whether DUmmie would be able to start it later.

Okay, then--shouldn't said DUmmie be standing in a puddle of water (beforehand)? O-)

better park the car next to a pool.. that way if they only stun themselves, they'll still drown.

I think a wet towel draped over the head would work better.
OTOH, I don't think the vacuum in the DUmmies head would conduct electricity anyway.

Well, it can't do any harm, then, right...?
