Title: Snow day!
Post by: Big Dog on February 05, 2014, 07:30:55 AM
Central Kansas got about a foot of snow over the last 30 hours. The snowdrift on my back porch is two feet tall (that's a full meter in Mexico). No sign of the county snowplow.

My boss texted me at 10:30 last night: the office is closed Wednesday due to weather.

Snow day!!!   :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Everything was closed today in NY.

Everything except NYC schools, and the NYS Legislature.  My wife went in driving my 4WD vehicle, as someone had to be in from her office.  She drove up from work around 3 PM.  I snowblowed three full driveways and one half-driveway (stuff that a Town snowplow had dropped at the bottom of the driveway) this morning, then four driveways (one for the second time) and four half-driveways this afternoon.  I'm tired.  The snow is still coming down.

On the plus side, I think I've built up a fair amount of goodwill among my neighbors, most of whom have no idea who did the driveways.  Just the way I want it. O-)

Aren't you glad the Weather Channel has started naming these things?  Does it make the shoveling and blowing any easier?

It does make bitching about them a tad easier.  Instead of saying, "I wish this ****ing storm would stop,"  I say "i wish this ****ing Niko would go the **** away."

Been running service calls since 6:00 just got done plowing the drive with my 4 wheeler and shoveling out the critters and the wood. We got about 12-15" here in the Catskills. Everyone was mean as snakes today!  Have to work on Sunday also when more snow is expected! Planning a ground hog hunt!

That was really, really sweet of you, BSS.  It's really tough for some people to handle that much material.   :-*

I felt it today, Karin, and I'll probably give my chiropractor a call tomorrow morning.  One of the half-driveways--in fact, the woman who brought me the fresh-baked muffins--was for a woman named Karin, and she made it a point to tell me that she spelled it with the 'i.'

(She went on to tell me a story about the Haribo Sugarless Gummi Bears that hit her husband's place of employment.  Fit the story exactly.)

I noticed the new vending machine at work has Haribo gummy bears.  I didn't notice if they were the sugar-free variety or not.

Get some and check.  If they're sugarless, . . . :evillaugh:

Starting Tuesday, we're supposed to have snow, sleet and freezing rain through Thursday....oh goody.....I get to be a go getter....I'll have to take her to work and then go get her. Oh well, it's a small price to pay for the woman that's got me on her health insurance.

I don't know where you live, but is this winter like last year's?  I remember some members getting snow up through May.

We supposedly have a 90% chance of snow Thursday.  It'll go on top of the snow we got last week.

I live in South Carolina. We didn't have snow in may but it was damn chilly for that time of year here. The cool spring and rain every day during the month of June killed my little garden. Oh well, maybe this year it will be better.

We have a garden every year (West Coast) but three years ago we never had a summer.  Cold and foggy every day.  The plants did terrible without the sun.

As I said in the Shout Box, our Winter Weather Watch, for Thursday, was already posted this afternoon.  7 to 12 inches of snow expected.  Gassed up the snowblower today--I'll do the function check tomorrow, and get more gasoline.  I'm drawing the line at three other driveways this time, though.
