No question Buddy Holly was a fundamental force in the creation of Rock 'n Roll -- IMHO at that time he was more important than Elvis.
I sometimes speculate what the one hit wonders Big Bopper (J. P. Richardson) and Richie Valens (Valenzuela) careers would have been. The Vera Cruzando sound of "La Bamba" has a wonderful spectum of songs available and maybe there would have been more of a tug in that direction (the Latin sound spectrum we have in Rock is more from Jose Feliciano and Carlos Santana than anyone else IMHO).
Richardson's song was more of a novelty cut -- I don't think he would have headlined another song after Chantilly Lace (but who knows...).

I think back on all those musicians lost in plane crashes:
Jim Reeves
Patsy Cline
Jim Croce
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Bill Chase
Ricky Nelson
...in addition to the two mentioned.

Don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but I like John Denver.

Going through high school and into the Air Force in the fifties, I remember them all fondly.
Thanks for the memories.

Stumbling around those videos, I ran across my favorite, Jim Reeves. If you have a young daughter, here's a cute one by Jim.

I was in grade school at that time. We were to sell magazine subtractions to be entered into a lottery of sorts to win the big prize.
My name was picked out of the bucket and my prize was a battery run small radio. Never saw one these things but I was pleased.
Got it home and began playing with it and the first station I picked up had the news of the plane crash and I could not believe it.
Second shock was in Hawaii about a month or so after seeing in person the Door's was the news of Jim's death.
Later on the news of Elvis death, and on to New Years Eve when in the 1980's 10 minutes before midnight the news butt in to say Rickey Nelson had died in a plane crash. Great timing, the news could have waited 15 minutes to give the news.
So many more going back to my parents time, Glen Miller and from that time how many others country and western and pop rocks, those we can bring back to life by listening to their music?
Me I was most effected by the death of all people, Rickey Nelson. I had seen him in person not 6 moths before is death and the timing of the announcement was a shock.
Jim Morrison was another biggie to me. I was a new Adult at the time , loved his music but did not at that time understand it. Actually it was the keyboard player that drew me in.
So often it is the back up that makes the singer. Iron Butterfly or any other bands that add in the sound effects ------Where would be Pink Floyd be with just a singer and 3 others.
Chicago, Boston or even Kiss? Today I see Phil Everly passed on, Damn, by, by love.
OH yes both brothers joined the Marines at the height of the Nam war. They went through boot camp with a friend of mine and put their life on hold to serve our country.
Just a crazy rant from your crazy Aunt living in the attic.------I am hungry, anyone going to feed me ?
