A man has been arrested in New York City for allegedly threatening former President George W. Bush after declaring his love for the 43rd president's daughter Barbara, officials said Saturday.
George Ogilvie, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, told the Los Angeles Times that officials arrested the man on Friday on suspicion of violating U.S. Code Title 18 Section 879 on issuing "threats against former presidents and certain other persons."
Ogilvie would not comment further on the arrest or give the man's name.
However, Reuters reported that the man has been identified as 44-year-old Benjamin Smith of Pittsford in upstate New York. Inside his car, officials found a loaded rifle, machete and container of gasoline.

2. Locking - duplicate
of http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014716150 . Please continue discussion there. Thanks.
It struck me as funny how the DUmmies can generate thread after thread after redundant thread about whatever is their pet peeve of the day, but two threads about a dangerous nut job threatening President Bush and his daughter is one thread too many.
Would two threads be enough if Barry and one of his daughters were the targets?

Now, doesn't that just take the cake.
General Discussion on Skins's island is congested with all sorts of duplicate threads, because the primitives want to be stars, thread-starters, rather than lowly commenters on threads started by other primitives.
But in all the years I've watched the primitives, this is the first time I've seen a thread declared a "duplicate."
Really.
The fact of the matter is, if Skins were to enforce some sort of "no duplicate threads" rule, he'd need considerably less cyberspace to store General Discussion.

The DU3 software must be pretty lousy if there's no 'merge' function.

We can have that here on this side, because it's no big deal.
But imagine, in the past, the fracas, the noise, the turmoil, that would've occurred if a thread by the hippywife primitive Mrs. Alfred Packer and another thread by the late Tangerine LaBamba had been merged because they were duplicates.
Primitives, really, don't get along with each other. Too many big egos.

It looks like the new software was designed more to corral a bunch of malcontents rather than promoting discussion.

There have been several times I've posted a thread, only to find someone else beat me to it by a few minutes.
I quickly ask for a merge with the original.
Other times I find a DUmp dupe related to a thread already posted, and instead of starting a new one, post the url in that thread.
After all, I'm the second nicest guy on CC. Even :jugs :yahoo: likes me. (in the DUmp, not here) :-)

That is an understatement. It seems like every other thread turns into a cat fight. Their mods must go crazy with the constant alerting going on.

The mods (hosts) check the author of the alert, and if it is someone they don't like, they ignore the alert.

and some Hosts apparently think that a soccer score from a meaningless friendly game is considered "really big news".
Discuss politics, issues, and current events. No posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports unless there is really big news. No conspiracy theories. No whining about DU.
Edit: and you should know that many of the other Hosts will intentionally ignore or vote Leave on your alerts, regardless of their merit. Some feel you abuse the alert button, and so judge those alerts not on the post, but on the alerter.

23. Do you think someone should tell him that most
of his alerts are ignored by some hosts just because he sends them? That response by Bonobo is priceless though
