That's what I heard on the radio this morning (after I changed it from the Mexican station it had drifted to overnight).

I just looked at the weather radar and don't see anything.

It's supposed to start tomorrow afternoon and continue through Wed afternoon. We are supposed to accumulate an inch or so in the Savannah area...with the precipitation changing to sleet and freezing rain.

I would think the ground would be too warm for it to stick.  We got some of it down here a few days ago, but it didn't stick to anything, thank goodness.

I remember down here in '92 or so, we had an ice storm. The paved street in front of our house had ice almost half an inch thick, but I had to go to town. I left early, and I basically idled the car all the way to town because I'd never driven on ice before. Once I got to town it was like Laurel and Hardy meets the Three Stooges. There were rednecks slipping and sliding all over the place. Apparently a lot of rednecks think that you are supposed to drive faster on a sheet of ice than you do a dry, asphalt street.

It's real simple--if you don't absolutely have to go outside and drive, don't.  Enough idiots will be out there to provide amusement to those who are smarter, and choose to stay home.

Us Southerners are being "made fun of" by the transplants in my office. They think it's hilarious. They won't think it's so funny if they get out there and have to drive with a bunch of us that aren't used to it. Ice doesn't discriminate anyway...don't care who you are.

Well, we started off with freezing rain, turned to sleet and then snow. Got about 1 1/2" to 2" but the layer of ice makes it slick out there. It's 18 degrees and not going to get above freezing for next 3 days sooooooooooo....it's here to stay a few days.

I apologize for my insensitive post earlier in the thread about it not sticking.  It was meant to be hopeful, but ended up being just plain rude.  I did not realize that it must have been much colder out your way recently than here.  I thought GA was generally about as warm as TX.  It was 76 here the other day; so the mess that was headed your way didn't stick here for which I am grateful.

I pray that all of you remain safe.  For those that can, please try to stay home.  If GA is anything like TX when we do get ice, the lunatics with something to prove all crawl out of the woodwork creating havoc for everybody else trying to just make it to work. We always have a few fatalities.  Take care.

Georgia was on the news this morning.  All those kids stuck in the bus or at school!!!  WTF?  Who in their right mind did not cancel school?
Our schools have been cancelled right and left, and we're snowbirds.  They may as well just home-school now, they've missed so much.  Good way to avoid the Godawful Common Core.

Hope the recovery is swift for everybody.  Stay safe.

I just watched a press  conference by the Georgia governor and a bunch of state officials.  They were showing some of the roads and the traffic jams.  There was hardly any snow and the roads looked clear! Icy conditions don't cause too much of a problem up here, it's when the snow piles up or white out conditions happens and visibility is almost zero.

Our warranty tech just dropped by my office.  He said everything coming out of Atlanta is delayed 24-48 hours.  I was supposed to get parts Monday... I got nothing yet.

We don't have salt, chemicals, or equipment to deal with it.  The best they do is throw sand on the bridges.  In bad winters, we even run out of sand.

Its funny how we take it for granted here. That would be a nice day! I know its different when you grow up in it. When we were young and driving our first hot rods it was party time on snowy days, we would practice drifting all over the place so driving in it is second nature to me.
Reminds me of the day I was working as a truck driver in Bakersfield CA and it snowed. I went to work and the whole city was dead? I thought maybe I missed the earthquake warning? I got the truck and went to my bosses house to see why no one showed up for work. He said it was snowing! It wasn't even sticking! I told him this is ridiculous I'm going to deliver these mattresses cause if I didn't today I would have to work the weekend. I took the truck over to my helpers house and made him get in. He spent the day hiding his eyes and whining like a bitch! Cause our route was up the canyon pass to the mountain where there was some snow. Hell I was the only vehicle on the road! It was cake for me and they thought I was crazy. Weird.
That said I hate the heat and humidity of the south. I spent a few weeks in Columbus GA in the summer working and I almost died and they thought I was a wimp! One thing I hope they don't do is start salting the roads and ruining all those southern cars I like to buy!

I've got the same problem.  We may stay home tomorrow unless I see an "Out for Delivery" on tracking.

It's been so cold up here that the salt and other chemicals don't work. For some reason they don't bother with sand, but they use to put cinders down at intersections until the city pissed off the company that provided the cinders for free.

We used to play in empty parking lots and learn how to handle the snow and ice.

I'm usually a bit scornful of people who drive too fast for conditions or don't admit their limitations.   But in this case that ice might have been "black ice. "  the pavement even looks normal.   And it can just be in patches.   I once asked a neighbor how I would know if I was getting onto black ice.   He joked my first hint would be hitting the ditch.  If conditions are right for black ice, and I'm not sure I pull off the pavement, get out, and test it.

I only mention black ice because it's not common everywhere.

It's really dangerous in rural areas where there are blacktop roads or the oil/gravel roads.  Those can look normal and not even look wet.

FOX just interviewed a guy from Atlanta who spent the night at a Kroger market.  He left work at 1:00 p.m. but the drive was so bad he stopped and went into the store.  Several others spent the night too.  He and another man slept on empty bottom shelves using a package of diapers for a pillow.  Kids were camped out in the valentine section with giant stuffed bears.

Chipper Jones "rescued" Freddie Freeman (Braves players for those that don't follow sports) on his 4-wheeler. Chipper drove 10 miles on his ATV to get Freddie, who had been in traffic for 11 hours. There are also some great stories floating around. Chick-fil-a and Waffle Houses are feeding people stuck in traffic for free.

In the Savannah area, it's only freezing rain. There is ice everywhere. I almost fell going on my front porch when I let the dogs out. Most businesses did close today, so hardly any traffic on the road...thank goodness. I'm thankful I don't live in the ATL area; and I hope everyone up there is ok.

Living in Tenn. up in the mountains they call off school if it rains, the school buses cannot get up some hills to collect the kids.

Then when I left Tenn to come home on an emergency ir was the Kings birthday in Jan and a freek storm had come in. Each county is responcible for the road conditions and the 50 mile trip to Nasville airport was a hair riser.

10 miles of 18 inch snow on the roads to clean roads in  another county.-------  Boarded and took off to change flight in Atlanta and they had freezing rain.  2 hour delay to get to Boston.  No problem with Boston, it was 45 degrees up  here.

The South does not have the snow removal equipment we have, they only get ice and snow every few years. We however expect most anything in the winter and are prepared for it.

I feel so sorry for the Dixie land that gets wolloped with snow and ice, they have no experience dealing with the very freezing cold, especially driving on ice covered with snow.

Good Luck Dixie, may the good lord keep all safe.

My two vehicle came with summer performance tires. I betcha most of the people stuck in traffic jams have never read their manual which states that summer tires are NOT RATED FOR ICE OR SNOW.

I still haven't gotten around to buying snow tires.  I should probably do that some time this year.

The ones I have are all-season.  Good thing there are no steep hills in my neighborhood.

I'm starting to wonder how much a set of four Blizzaks would be for my RAV.  Probably an arm and a leg.  Every now and then we get an ice storm that paralyzes the area.  It'd be nice to have some wheeled mobility.

A neighbor has one like that.  Ugly!  I think he uses it in the mountains.

Right now it's raining here.  We're supposed to get about 8 inches of snow over the next couple days.  I have to get out to feed animals and drive through town to get from one place to the next.  I've got a plan to drive during really slow times.  Wish me luck.

Just about every road covered in a few inches of snow over about an inch of ice.  23° here, 6° 30 miles west (thank you rivers).  Supposed to just inch above freezing today and back in the teens or so tonight.  Just about everything is closed.

Oh well, the joys of eastern NC when it snows.

8 degrees early this morning, 22 right now but our main roads are in good shape now.

New Orleans had a problem with a hurricane......black mayor.
Detroit had a problem with urban flight.............black mayor.
Atlanta had a problem with ice and snow...........black mayor.
America has a problem with the economy..........black president.
I think I see a pattern here.
