How religion cuts crime: Church-goers are less likely to shoplift, take drugs and download music illegally

Study found people who visit places of worship commit fewer crimes

The more frequent the visits, the lower the chance of delinquent behaviour

Crimes ranged from littering and music piracy up to the use of illegal drugs

People who regularly visit a place of worship are less likely to get involved in low level crime and delinquency, according to new research.

A survey from Manchester University found a direct correlation between higher visits to religious places and lower crime figures, especially in relation to shoplifting, drug use and music piracy.

Researchers believe this is because religion not only teaches people about 'moral and behavioural norms', but also spending time with like-minded people makes it less likely they'll get mixed up with the 'wrong crowd'.

As part of the project, more than 1,200 18 to 34-year-olds from across all the UK's major faiths were were asked about their worshipping habits.

They were also asked about any past misdemeanours, and the likelihood they would commit low-level crimes in the future.

Give me a break, some of the most often church goers are freaking casing the place.

Lots of money to be made on artifacts from churches.

Oh yes just confess your sin and all will be forgiven until the cops show up at the door.

I was taught that the confessional was to not be violated and it is up to killing and all kinds of nasty acts.

However take from the Church and the Priest will be on the phone before you get out the door.

Parish follower.

Forgive me Father I have sinned.   I come to ask sanctuary here,   the police are looking for me, I have killed 3 Nuns of our parish.

Son say 5,000 hail Mary's and your room is on the 3rd floor.

Father I have something else to confess, it was I who stole your wallet.

Sinner, best to run I am calling the police you horrid person, may you burn in Hell.

Mrs. Smith, the sad fact that churches all over the world are being looted of the Magnificence of the past.

Private collector's of art and history will pay a bundle for just one Icon or statue of note.

Where do they get them from.    Like the tombs in Egypt or South America, raiders come in to scavenge.

Money is very high for even world Museums to acquire a masterpiece.

So how do the thieves get what is needed by a collector.   The buyer does not send the thieves out to a location and tell them to just smash and grab.

They have their eye on a few pieces be it a solid  silver collection plate to any other thing, like the copper pipes in the basement to the computers etc.

Small churches are hit the hardest, they usually have no security system.  A sin that needs to be addressed.

Up here we have had many Churches that open their 24/7 open policy for the cold and hungry can come out of the cold. Easy pickings for the thief's.

So how does this work around the world, the buyer instructs the thieves according to the return to become a regular member.  So if the Church members see them they are not strangers.   No one thinks a thing about seeing these people around the Church day or night.

They tabulate everything of value and wait for instructions of what they can get without causing a scene. One night they make off with what they can and the history of man disappears.

Small Churches, held in some ones garage in the South are my favorite places to worship
the big mega Churches with a disgraced pastor are not my cup of tea.

But, no matter the size of the congregation there is always something to steal. Our little Church had a Pastor that with the music director run off with Church funds.

Just because people are Christian does not make them God Fearing or good people.
