Damn military RETIREES pensions were cut in the budget agreement by 1 percent
Joe Madison just blew the lid off this story No one not even most military retirees knew it.
DUmmy is correct about me (a military retiree) not knowing it.  I am looking at my retiree account statement, which DOES show a modest increase of 1.5% for COLA.

Perhaps DUdarryl meant the COLA was smaller than expected, but even a small increase is not the same as a cut.

They certainly become outraged easily, and often without justification.

You'd think the DUmp would be a bit more pissed that it wasn't a real cut to the military. Perhaps a mole ought to jump in to explain the math...

Dane, based on your comments I'm guessing you are over 62.

Actually, the way it works is that retirees who are under 62 (including med retirees) will receive colas that are 1% less than those over 62.  When they reach 62 their pay will be raised to a level that reflects the previous raises they lost.  They will not, however, recover any of the funds lost prior to age 62.

They (both D & R) are taking enough heat that they are already trying to weasel out of it.

Stupidest idea so far, get the 6 billion from the Post Office.

71, retired in 1988.

But even with that, a smaller COLA is still an increase, and is not actually a cut.  The way I understand a cut is, if I'm getting $100 regularly, a cut would mean I get less than $100.  And since this is not true, I think the DUmmy's outrage is unwarranted, and his thread title incorrect.

As to the semantics, you are correct.  However, looking at it through the eyes of a recently retired member of the armed services, during your 20+ years of service you were repeatedly assured you would receive a retainer (actual terminology in the law) that will be adjusted for inflation.  Shortly after you leave active duty Congress announces they are going to renege on that promise.  If in 2015 active and retired (over 62) military, SSI, government employees etc. etc. all receive a 1.5% cola but you receive a .5% cola wouldn't you be a bit disappointed?

It's a cut and it's an outrage as far as I am concerned.

I agree and every single one of the bums who voted for it should be voted out.

Ummm, no, you got it wrong. If Demonrats were going to give you a 10% increase, but you only got 1 1/2% because of Repigs, you got a cut....................see?

And once again I do not see any so called veteran over at the DUmp saying squat to defend this or any other thing Nobama has done to veterans. It seems the only time a DUvet shows up is when they want street cred.

Perhaps because most of them are posers and the ones that aren't never got close to retirement.

That's the way I understood it.  A 1% cut in annual COLA, which hasn't been squat in the last 5 years anyway.

Zero cola 2011 & 2012, 1.3 % 2013 and 1.5 this year. If I remember correctly.
