Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama arrived back in chilly Washington on Sunday after a 16-day holiday in his native Hawaii, but his wife Michelle was not with him.
Obama swapped the sun-dappled golf courses of tropical Hawaii for a Washington in the grip of an Arctic cold snap this weekend, and faces a tough political season ahead.
The US president left Honolulu's Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Air Force One just before 9:00 pm on Saturday (0700 GMT Sunday) with his daughters, before arriving in the US capital eight hours later.
"As part of her birthday gift from the president, the First Lady will remain in Hawaii to spend time with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday," a brief White House statement said. Michelle Obama's birthday is on January 17...

Sometimes, I seriously wonder if the President is trolling the American people. Maybe he's just bored, so he sits around thinking up arrogant new ways to get a rise out of people. Perhaps he thinks it's funny. I sincerely hope that's the case because, otherwise, Barack Obama's five years of non-sequiturs, cognitive dissonance, and outright hypocrisy paint a picture of a deeply out of touch "leader" who - at best - has a limited concept of reality.
Case in point are his comments from yesterday's weekly Presidential radio address.
Just a few days after Christmas, more than one million of our fellow Americans lost a vital economic lifeline – the temporary insurance that helps folks make ends meet while they look for a job. Republicans in Congress went home for the holidays and let that lifeline expire. And, for many of their constituents who are unemployed through no fault of their own, that decision will leave them with no income at all.
Keep in mind that this statement comes from a well-heeled millionaire who's enjoying a partially taxpayer funded 15 day vacation. Where did he go? Oh, that's right: home. To Hawaii. For Christmas.

So why would her girls want to go home with Daddy and not spend another week or so with their Mommy for her big time 50 birthday ? One would think the girls would love to spend extra time with Mommy and their grandma, they can be schooled for the extra week or two from the finest teachers in this land of Paradise.
Where are the dogs, did they have to go back with Obama and the girls or are they still enjoying the warm waters to swim in and beaches to run on ?
Curious and suspicious minds want to know.

Way back in the late 60's we would go to a park just off Waikiki Beach near the zoo to watch the natives do the Hula and play their island music. It was bland for the time.
Daddy flew out and took me to a super club that had Tahiti entertaining and WOW, what a difference. Kind of stuff that makes one dance in their chairs.
Island culture, will Mo go to the back jungle cock fights, head for a small town of all islanders and go in the bars for the coconut drink that puts you on your butt under the table after just one ? Perhaps she will get to smoke some Maui Wowie, run about the orchards of Macadamias nuts, and get sick of rice, coconut and pineapple on everything.
Say how long can she survive on SPAM ?
I must say, wearing a MUMU is fun at first and after a while getting use to wearing flip-flops and going back to shoes does take some getting use to.
We lived in Halsey Terrace Navy housing and it drove us crazy as planes took off 24/7 and the sound of these big brutes every few minutes was a problem.
Good and bad about living near Pearl Harbor.
Would I ever go back at my age, Hell no, Hotel street is now cleaned up from the gay bars, would be difficult to travel into the interior to loose money at a Cock Fight, or find a bar with the coconut fermented juice.
Best to stay up here in the frozen earth where it is quiet and I can watch on my PC those gorgeous young men do their thing.
Possibly the main reason I for avoidance of the Congregational faith. They set out with Christian faith and destroyed a whole culture.

let me guess. Since moochelle is not from Hawaii, she most likely doesn't have any friends who live in Hawaii, but will be flying her friends to visit her in Hawaii on the taxpayer's dime.

These “gifts†usually don’t come cheap. According to the White House Dossier:
Mrs. Obama jetted out to Hawaii on an Air Force C-40B Special Mission Aircraft. The Defense Department bills other agencies $6,330 per flight hour for use the plane.
Assuming a flight time from Washington DC to Hawaii of about ten hours, the cost to taxpayers for the flight alone would be about $63,000.
This is not a short stay, either: if she stays until her birthday, that’s at least 11 days away. That’s eleven more days of security and travel costs incurred by American taxpayers.
At a time when many people are struggling financially, does it set a good example to have a 4-member family take two separate jets home from their multi-week vacation? Most families don’t even consider taking two separate cars out to a family dinner because it’s such a waste of gas…

Air Force One is called AF1 only when the president is on board. If Barry goes back to pick up her goat-smelling ass, then the answer to that question is, "Yes." Otherwise, no.
