Why America's Doctor Shortage Might Mean Trouble for Obamacare
ER visits were 40% higher for people who won Oregon's Medicaid lottery—in part because there aren't enough doctors to see them elsewhere.
[snip blah blah blah]
Our healthcare system has coverage and cost problems. It was nice—and convenient—to think fixing the former would help the latter, but it's not true. Lunch is never free, especially at the hospital.

Is it me, or is the Atlantic a compilation of very poorly written articles? Nads should submit her ramblings to them.
Love the last line of this article, which goes right over the increasingly annoying xchrom's head. Lunch is never free. Now xchrom, what do you think the writer is saying here?

Nothing to add. No lunch is never free, somebody always expects something back with the free sammich.
Just responding to a "you rang?" because a free sammich is a free sammich, until the "By the way" pops out.

"Doctors won't take it but Obamacare is free"...[DU/mode]
Next democrat move/healthcare law, force doctors to work for less than free....that'll fix everything.

A doctor on FOX said he treats some poor patients for free because doing the paperwork to get paid Medicaid rates costs him more money than just doing the work for free.

My uncle, the doctor, did that too.

I wonder if they're able to claim it as charity on their taxes.
I'm not knocking it. My ophthalmologist did one of my operations for free because I was out of work (I still had to pay the hospital). He volunteers a lot of his time outside of the office as well. Everybody in the eye care bidness knows him by name.

I don't know about any tax write off but My aunt complained about his generosity to the detriment of his own family. He didn't get rich being a doctor but he was always happy.

I read somewhere that under NOcare this will be illegal. One of the most common measures of success for bureaucracies is the volume of paper they shuffle (See VA).

Taking payments outside of medicaid, Obama Care, or insurance is soon going to be illegal.
I seem to remember a tall macdaddy that said Obama Care would lower the usage of the ER. Who could that be?

Apparently part of the law says that hospitals must file the proper paperwork for treating an unemployed patient or they will be fined.
Also, the free lunch line was a bit ironic for me. My hospital just stopped serving actual food for the night shift. The grill is open, so you can get a grilled cheese or burger, etc., but they used to have some decent food for us poor night shift worker. We were informed that obamacare mandates that hospitals stop using fryers in their kitchens by 2015. I bring my lunch 90% of the time, but sometimes I just want a burger and fries, and that won't be an option in a year.

Well, I guess all you scoffers that think Moochelle is lazy have egg substitute on your faces now. She obviously had a part in writing the NOcare law didn't she?
Sorry Rose but, it's for your own good. I'm guessing they will have somebody checking your lunch bags as soon as DHS can hire inspectors.

If you ever want to see first hand the incoherent, irrational and downright idiotic mind of a DUmbass then wade over and read through the drivel on that thread.
Just one example.

7. As those of us that actually pay attention to what is actually happening already know,
the ACA has absolutely nothing to do with the American health care industry. The effort to conflate them has numerous proponents for a wide variety of reasons, but none of them has anything to do with your health or the quality of care you will receive should you be lucky enough to get in.
Want more doctors? Ban the AMA and outlaw its function. Remove the open-ended medical industry profit motive and we will have more medical schools turning out more doctors.
Want better doctors? Make sure that it is known that a medical degree is not a ticket to the millionaire's clubhouse. Yes, you'll make a good living and become a well-regarded member of your community, but you're not going to get rich, period.
Sure thing doofus, that will open the floodgates. :mental:
-
This DUmmy is as clueless as they make them.
First of all, the AMA doesn't represent the majority of doctors. Less than 17% of doctors and medical students are members.
According to stupido, under his plan there is no incentive for anyone to want to become a doctor. It's a long process that takes years of hard work, under pressure and without much sleep, while putting up with all kinds of crappy people, policies, laws and regulations. Your whole life revolves around your work.
-
Yeah what would really help the soon to be doctor shortage due to Obama Care is to pay the doctors less. Oh and increase the amount of work they have to do per patient by increasing the amount of regulations and paperwork required.
now what should be done is to limit lawyer's salary to $100K per year. Society as a whole would be ten times better off. After all, lawyers are democrats and democrats are all about helping the poor and making society better.
