A thread for the public employees who are outside right now...
...clearing the streets and highways.
It's miserable here in KC and I'm in my warm, comfy clothes drinking a cup of hot tea and typing on my computer. It's dead quiet outside with the exception of an occasional snow plow going by.
I have to go to work later on today, but my trip will be made much, much easier with a clear street to drive on. And if I need emergency assistance, I can be assured it'll arrive much, much quicker.
Just another public service we tend to take for granted...

When I saw the subject line I thought this was going to be an OS thread, or he would at least show up with one bouncy.
However, my dear Kansdem, when one pays real estate taxes one is acutely aware of how much services such as DPW and fire/police costs the city or town one resides in and as such one never takes it for granted.
Paying taxes if the key here.

Pathetic.

A love letter never read by the beloved- because they're working, and not reading the DUmp.

Formerlurker nailed it.

Yeah, I feel real sorry for the snowplow drivers and the shotgun riding relief driver.
Sunday equals double time.
And they'll be picking up 4 to 6 hours a day of time and a half most of the coming week.
I sure feel sorry for them.

Exactly. The dumwit is lounging in its onesie with its hot chocolate trying to imply these union employees are working out of charity. The dunce needs to send in some extra tax payments if they feel these workers are doing too much.

Good point. Every plow driver they interview on TV and that I know who just throw a plow on their truck LOVE going out in this since it spells $$$ for them. You won't see a sad face in the bunch when this all starts and extends since it really is a huge bonus for them on bad snow years.
They also are driving something totally made for the weather conditions so they are safe and assuming the heat works, comfortable in their cabs while treating the roads. I don't begrudge them either--it's got to be done--but feeling pity? These peeps are well compensated for being out there in that cold and snow and besides the money, plowing snow for some is akin to 'breaking things' and I know some of those fellas really enjoy pushing snow around and claiming victory.

I appreciate the DUmmie's better intentions, and I do thank the guys out there trying to mitigate the damage for their hard work, where most of them are earning their dough the hard way. As you folks note, of course, it is their job, and they're getting paid for it, so it's not exactly as big a deal as throwing themselves on live grenades, either.

And they get to play bumper car if there are signs up for Snow Day Parking or the State guys on the interstate with cars on the shoulder. Not much consequence for the driver if he scrapes the doors off some DUoche's Mercedes left on the wrong side of the street.
And, as for their being in the snow and cold? Only for as long as it takes them to scurry from their own car to the DOT truck, Other than that - they got radios and all night on the truck at 1 1/5X - 2X pay. Yeah, they're crying, crying all the way to the bank.

A private enterprise could do it cheaper, faster and with better results.

1. Yup. Damn that big gubmint.
Well no misfit. Local DPW and emergency services are not big government. They are local government that taxpayers pay real estate taxes for - because they want those services. In New England there is a town meeting form of government where the exact $ number for each department is approved by the taxpayer/voter.
See how that works?

Sounds like a win-win, actually...

My advice for public workers in this weather.
Dress warm...

They were doing a life feed from somewhereland, NE and the reporter put on camera the sideview mirror of their mobile unit that got smashed by a snowplow.
Those dudes probably aim and play a points game.

Why do the primitives always gush over public employees?
That thread over at the DUmp reminds me of Judy, the grasswipe primitive, who would have offered free pies for public workers and union members, but made everyone else pay.

Only to those with a higher than average income. The lowest paid pro democrats still had to pay.

Because they vote democrat and they're in strong commie unions.
