Yeah, we picked up 6 inches of global warming overnight here in central Hoosierland.

Haven't been outside to push it off my truck yet ,but thankfully, it looks like there was no ice.

According to news8 it's currently 18 degrees and feels like 8 with wind chill.

We've already hit our high of 32º degrees today.  It's supposed to drop down to single-digits later today and tonight.

Gonna be fun.

At 4 AM the temp was 10 deg. with a wind chill that brought it down to -3 deg.

I got the snow blower out and blasted away about 3 inches of that shit that I hate. Of course, some of that shit blasted back into my face.

****ers.

We have about 4 inches of global warming on the ground with temps around 20.  It's supposed to get down near zero tonight with maybe a heatwave of mid 30's Saturday. Sunday and Monday are looking like sub zero temperatures.

Our forecast looks good for the next couple of days, at least we will hit double digit temps.  However, the high Sunday is supposed to be 2, with a low of -16.  Monday should be quite balmy with a high of -5 and a low of -11. :banghead:

Tania, I'm smack in the 12"-18" belt that The Weather Channel has up.  Supposedly, we've cracked double digits in a 'high' temperature for today--we got to 14F--but now both the TWC website and my electronic weather station (also with a TWC logo--hey, it was inexpensive!) say 2 Fahrenheit.  The wind chill makes it feel as if it's -13F.  I just got in after snowblowing four driveways, and after having to redo two of them (after the Town snowplow came by).  I need a cup of tea and another log into the fireplace. :fuelfire:

Snow, more snow and bitter cold (wind chill down to -15 here or so tomorrow; -40 in Stowe Vermont; -29 in Portland, ME).

It's New England.  The ski resorts know it will all melt next week when it rains in the 40s+.

Screw the snow.

<<<right now, prefers snow, even if several feet of it.

As I type, temperature in town in 2 degrees.  Wind chill is -22.  Plows and salt/sand trucks are starting to make headway, but drive home today is going to SUCK.  Scoobs convinced me to stay in Manch-Vegas overnight last night so I wouldn't face a double-drubbing of 50-mile commutes.  The hotel is (normally) 5 minutes away if I get caught at every light (all four of them.)  This morning it took me 15, and the window froze up as I was driving.

The INSIDE of the window.  With the defroster going full-blast.  And LOSING.

Memo to self--warm up truck for 15-20 minutes.  Screw trying to get anywhere in a hurry.  Getting home this afternoon WILL take 2-3 hours.

Temperature tonight should drop down to about -15 with a wind chill in the -25 to -30 range.  While nippy, not nearly as bad as the North Country, where they're looking at around -35 or so, wind chills -45 or lower.

And yes, I managed to find someone to plow out the driveway at home, and there's a oil tank fillup coming on Monday.  All things considered, I'm surprised the first fill lasted this long.  The bad news, it's $3.75/gallon NOW, meaning the next fill will be at/near $4/gallon.

Grass is green?? Seriously?

A joke for you, sir:

A man was living in Maine near the New Hampshire border for many years.  One year, a state survey crew discovered his property was in fact located in New Hampshire, not Maine, and they went to tell him.

When informed, he breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Ayuh, that's good, I don't think I could have handled another Maine wintah!"

It is excessively cold!! Right now it is 12 degrees out at the moment, and a toasty -10 overnight.... The washing machine water pipe is frozen...yikes!! I called Laurie(the owners wife) I have the woodstove in the kitchen going strong, and opened the curtain to the washer room(that it is off the kitchen).....As it is a 300 year old farmhouse, there is no insulation.....so one of them are on their way..Frozen, then burst pipes are no laughing matter. The MAIN reason why I called.

can you use a hairdryer on it, or is that a bad idea?  (I don't have any clue about living in cold weather)

Actually, just by opening the curtain door, the heat from the woodstove got the washer room heated up. I have heard differing opinions on heating with hair dryers.  The best is gradual heat, especially with plastic pipes. I am not an expert on plumbing, so unsure. It is working now though. I didn't need to do laundry, but wanted to catch up...

26 right now with a high around 34, but that is when the snow is supposed to start and then the cold air really hits.  Forecast is anywhere from 5-12 inches and bitterly cold temperatures for the next 3 days.

Starting Sunday night, I'm hibernating for 3 or 4 days.

We got about 9-10 inches of snow from the storm.  I'm looking at my little The Weather Channel-branded La Crosse Technology receiver for the portable weather station as I type this, and it says -7.1 Fahrenheit.  Don't know what the wind chill is.  I wonder if the four deer that were bedded down 20 yards from the back sliding door came down to dine on the arbor vitaes last night (it's a preferred winter food for deer).  If they did, I don't mind.  They have to stay warm, and I saw the alpha doe of that group browsing on white pine yesterday.  Not a good thing.

It's supposed to warm up today and tomorrow--maybe I can get rock salt out today.  Monday morning, it's supposed to be close to 50 in the morning, and wind up around 2 at night. :banghead:

8 am. the temp is -3 outside.   The furnace has run steadily for 36 hours to keep house at 72 degrees.

Checking my check book to see if I can afford another propane delivery, may be cheaper to turn heat down to 50 degrees and head for a off season rate motel that accepts pets.

We do have back up heat here, a never used room heater and fuel to run it for a couple of days.

Problem is we bought our home when the plastic plumbing was still legal, cost to up grade it is around $5,000.

It is going to be a very expensive winter to just stay warm up here.

Vesta, try the Wren's Nest Motel. I have a friend that lives there with her pooch..

Thank you Tania, cannot do that but the Rose Wood at Rye has kitchenettes and allows pets.

Please do not tell your friend this but I shudder each time I pass by the Wrens Nest, few years ago when we car pooled to work the driver picked up a young man that stayed there with his wife and new baby.

A real nice guy but really jumpy, he mentioned more then once he worried about wife
as she was not good with babys.  One day he mentioned the manager was peeking in the window at his wife while he was at work.

He decided to head south and his last day at work his wife brought in donuts and the baby at lunch time, a friendly and nice girl.

Long about 6 months after they left someone came in to work and asked me if I had seen the news.  Seems someone in NC had found an abandoned U Haul with NH plates in the back woods and found a cooler in the back.  Yup, never know what one finds in an abandoned cooler, best not to open one when you find one.

They caught up with them and the wife was pregnant again and HE took the blame.

Funny how something like that can effect people, a 3 day wonder with those of us who worked with him wracking our brains to think of any signs he had shown outside of mentioning his wife not being good with babys. It was odd also that on breaks he sat at what we girls called OUR table. He did not socialize with the other males.

Actually the Wrens Nest is a lovely place, but, I cannot help but associate the place with that darling little baby and its parents.

You know Tania I have not given it a thought in a couple years until you mentioned the place, I do wonder what ever happened to his wife and new baby.

Just ruminating on a not so cold winter night.

Well, it's snowing like crazy here and the cloud cover is so dense that it has knocked out Directv.

I had to pay rent yesterday and while talking to the manager she mentioned her "in" with the TSA at Indianapolis International (which, by the way, used to be called Weir Cook)
We're looking at about 14 inches of new fallen snow on top of the 6 inches delivered just the other day.

But it's all good, my cats breath still smells like catfood and the Colts sent KC back to another year of what ifs.

I expected the Eagles to win.  Brees certainly tried to help them by throwing interceptions.  I'm partial to the Saints, only because I've had them so long on my fantasy fb team.   :-)

L. A.  doesn't have a football team... so I sort of adopted the state LA.

Aaron Rogers is another of my favorites (I know, many don't like him).
