Harold Simmons, Texas billionaire and influential Republican donor, dies at 82
Source: The Guardian
Simmons helped fund the 'swift boat' campaign against John Kerry in 2004 and backed Texas governor Rick Perry
Billionaire Harold Simmons, one of the richest men in America and a major contributor to the Republican Party, has died in his native Texas at 82.
The death, confirmed in a statement by Texas governor Rick Perry, was first reported on the website of the Dallas Morning News, which said he died on Saturday at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.
His wife, Annette, told the newspaper Simmons had been "very sick for the last two weeks" and in Baylor's intensive care unit for the last eight days. She did not give a specific cause of death.

4. I don't think we should ever gloat
I know you weren't, but I do see it a lot when a conservative dies or a Republican. If we do that like the case of Thatcher then we can't be pissed of when conservatives do it to Mandela or some other liberal. I wish both sides would refrain from that. Of course getting conservatives to act like adult is impossible, but we certainly could.
Apparently you haven't been there long enough.

16. I realize mine was a pretty brutal post, but
I don't think I could ever forgive those Swiftboat slugs for the hatchet job they did on John Kerry.
Those right-wing assholes love to proclaim themselves more patriotic than thou, but when confronted with a veteran who didn't espouse their ideology, they disrespected his service without so much as a qualm.
If you wanna play it that way, yes, conservatives are more patriotic, that is statistically factual.

Question.
Where were the swiftboat veterans ever proven wrong?
Anybody know?
-
Well, I think it's been established that John Kerry has never been to Cambodia as a member as the brown water navy.
-
And for that matter tossed medals at the whitehouse that were not his.

Yeah, especially after spending Christmas in Cambodia, in Nixon's war! Quite a fete since he hadn't even been sworn in yet Still, it was SEARED, SEARED in his memory. So naturally, his account of anything must be true, rather than the majority of those who served with him.

Copied from wikipedia
That same day, Pickens issued a response, saying he was "open" to Kerry's suggestion, but stated that the offer applied only to the group's television ads, and additionally required Kerry to provide his Vietnam journal, his military records, specifically those for the years 1971-1978,[/u] and copies of all movies and tapes made during his service.[3] Pickens' letter also challenged Kerry to agree to donate $1 million to the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, if Kerry "cannot prove anything in the Swift Boat ads to be untrue."[3]
Those military records would have exposed his "Dishonorable Discharge" that was upgraded by then president Jimmy Carter in the late 70's.
