Oh my.
As if this didn't long ago explain all the morbidly-obese primitives.
At times it might seem so, but surely franksolich wasn't the first to make a connection.

Weight gain and psychiatric medication.
That's the only bad side affect I have from my medication. It makes it really easy to put on weight and really hard to take it off. I know the weight gain is not just from poor eating habits. My diet has room for improvement, but it's not like I'm consuming 4000 calories a day.
I have blood work done regularly to monitor my health and medication levels. I am very healthy despite my large size. Cholesterol is a bit elevated, but not enough to require medication. Blood sugar is normal. Thyroid is functioning normally. My blood pressure is in the healthy range which often surprises the nurse when she gets the reading and looks at who it came from. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me aside from my bipolar disorder and that has been in remission for over ten years through the use of medication. I'm about 70 pounds overweight and I put on 50 of it since I started taking medication.
How this medication is affecting my weight really hit home with me today at work when we were having our annual company Christmas dinner. The owner of the company I work for buys a huge amount of food for the employees to partake in for Christmas. Fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, bread, meat and cheese trays, tapioca pudding, soft drinks- just a ton of artery-clogging, waist-expanding food. I watched these guys eat as I ate and they just packed that stuff in there. Guys my size were eating three times as much as I was. I ate about as much as a little 130 pound dude and was full. I watched a few of those guys who were my size eat more than I think I could have possibly eaten without puking. I've never eaten as much as they have in one sitting.
You know...it's definitely worth it. I'm not going to stop taking my medication so I can start eating like a pig. It's just one of those little things that sort of sets you apart from everyone else. Just a another reminder that you're different and you have to watch what you do.

1. I suspect that you may be taking an SSNRI
something like citalopram or mirtazapine?
If so water retention one of the side effects. Check your above your ankles on the side near the front of the shin bone, press your thumb hard but not painfully into the flesh for 3 to 5 seconds and see how quick the dint takes to recover. More than 1 or 2 seconds and you might have water retention.
Don't panic this is not normally a problem though you may find yourself getting a bit short of breath (I know I do) but tell your doctor and get him to check it out.

2. I appreciate the idea, intaglio
I take ziprasidone, lithium, and bupropion. I'm pretty sure the ziprasidone is the culprit. It is an atypical anti-psychotic and the drug's maker lists weight gain as a possible side affect. Brand name is Geodon. It's a common side affect of the atypical anti-psychotics, although they aren't sure exactly why it occurs last I heard.

A good friend of mine is a doctor. He told me that if all his patients lost an average of 50 pounds he could cut the number of different medications they take in half or more.

DUmmie is retaining water because he can't find his penis. The last time he was in the bathroom complaining about being so large that he hadn't seen his dick in years. A fellow worker told him he should diet. DUmmie turned to fellow worker exposing himself and said, "Diet? Hell, what color is it now."

BIL the youngest of the 7 kids called me one day to tell me he was on a diet. At 6 foot 5 and 300 pounds he told me he could finally see the little man peaking over the mountain.
My hair stood on end at the visual he gave me so I ran to give the phone to his brother.
