Destroying The Dixie Chicks – Ten Years After
All I've been seeing from conservatives today is how liberals only believe in the freedom of speech when we agree with what is being said, and this Duck Dynasty fellow should be protected from reprisal. I've taken great joy in reminding them of the black listing they gave the Dixie Chicks for speaking out against Dubya. This article was posted in March, but I thought it deserved to be dug up.
"Despite numerous clarifications and apologies from Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks, a full on boycott of their music was called for by pro-Bush, pro-war, and pro-American groups. Their single “Landslide†went from #10 on the Billboard charts, to #44 in 1 week, and the next week fell off the charts completely. Radio stations who played any Dixie Chicks songs were immediately bombarded with phone calls and emails blasting the station and threats of boycotts if they continued. Even radio DJ’s and programmers who sympathized with the Dixie Chicks were forced to stop playing them from the simple logistics nightmare the boycott created. Some DJ’s who played the Dixie Chicks were fired.
Dixie Chicks CD’s were rounded up, and in one famous incident were run over by a bulldozer. Concerts were canceled in the US as the Dixie Chicks couldn’t sell tickets, and rival concerts were set up that would take Dixie Chicks tickets in exchange. The Dixie Chicks lost their sponsor Lipton, and The Red Cross denied a million dollar endorsement from the band, fearing it would draw the ire of the boycott. The Dixie Chicks also received hundreds of death threats from the incident."

If they hadn't done so, the boycott would have failed
Oh blanket, don't try to reason with them. Duck Dynasty did not alienate its fan base. They will never understand that.

Who are the dixie chicks? :fuelfire: :fuelfire:
Lessee... the dumbass chicks put down the country, pissed off their fan base, and went into the dustbin of music history. The Duck guy, well he didn't put down the country, quoted the bible, and the gays got their gerbils in an uproar. Not his fanbase.
Hmmmm.... I don't see the connection.
Just as an aside dummies... the dumbass chicks WAS an effective boycott. I do not recall anyone ever saying they need to be silenced. All I heard is that no body was gonna buy their music anymore. Personally I could not care less since I don't listen to country music, but it was effective. A&E? They fired the guy for a group of people that never watched their show to start with. Don't watch it so I don't care either.
Seems to me like a bad business decision.
I've said it before... I don't care if a company's employees have gay sex at lunch everyday. If it makes me money, I'll invest. If not, I won't. There is a reason you dummies are poor and I ain't.
Losers.

LOL!!!!
I just wonder what went thru the other two's minds when she said that on stage. I bet the first word started with an "O" and the next word started with an "F". Then "There goes the money!!!"
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall backstage when the show was over.

Judging from the responses on FB and Twitter, I'd say Phil Robertson has energized his fan base. I think he may have started a bit of a revolution. Christians are getting tired of the persecution for simply believing the Word of God and taking it seriously.

Not to mention, perky, that the tactics used by the "enemies" of the Dipsy Twits' to get them off the air are the same ones DUmmies have been trying for YEARS to get Rush off the air.
Score: Rush: 5,823
DUmmies: 0
Bottom line, the people came to hear your songs, Natalie, not your asine political beliefs.
The Chicks destroyed THEMSELVES, by Natalie ignoring a basic truth of life:
"When you're up to your nose in shit, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!"
Embrace the suck!

Not just Christians, people are sick of the "Don't push your morals on me" crowd constantly pushing their morals onto everyone else.

Blanket Statements is asking for a Blanket Party to be thrown in his honor.
He is right. - The DCs insulted their fan base, whereas a bunch of people who don't watch DD threatened to boycott the shows advertisers because of Phil Robertson's remarks. As for the DUmmies comment about 'free speech' -- it doesn't apply.
Neither the DC's nor Robertson were denied their right by the government or government authority - and the truth is A&E has the right to hire or fire anyone for any reason. ..And A&E will either profit from or pay for that decision.
As for the GQ interview...
Robertson should have expected this result.. -GQ is published by the same people responsible for Vanity Fair and The New Yorker. There is no way a leftist operation is going to miss out on the opportunity to fire at a hugely popular show based around conservative principles and Christian faith.

It's my understanding that the interview took place last January. Wonder what took them so long to get enraged.

Unfortunately for Barry, and his hangers on, and I take the liberty to count myself in to this admittedly thin portion of the electorate.
I can chew gum and walk at the same time, as well as rub my belly and pat my head while doing so...AND...remember to breath!!
I know, it's kinda freakish ain't it?

Seems to me the only one that's been discriminated against here is Phil Robertson.

They did that today. A&E and DD will be parting company. DD in one show has roughly 20 times the viewers that the entire msnbc lineup has. Very bad business decision on their part to get on their knees to the gay mafia.
Apparently the only people that can be discriminated against are white Christians and we have had enough of it.

But that doesn’t negate the fact that a big reason this happened is that a pretty regular guy — a guy who hates phonies and tells it like it is — is going to be rhetorically unequipped to navigate the PC land mines that 21st century fame demands. It has as much to do with class and geography and culture and attitude as it does with religion.
Politics and reality TV are increasingly causing these two worlds to clash. Until we find a way to domesticate these guys with the gun racks in their pickup trucks, (domesticated? Hell, We refuse to be house broken or even paper trained) I suspect this will be a recurring story.
There really are two Americas.

How hilarious it must be when their jetta breaks down in the middle of the countryside.
Taylor: "OMG! we're going to get raped just like in deliverance!"
Brandon pipes up from the back seat: Wouldn't that be great?!

That's a given. We pay taxes. They sponge off of taxes.

I will be brutally honest. I frankly don't see how "Arts & Entertainment & Croissants" channel even showed Duck Dynasty in the first place. One would think that their "base" of socialist elites would have had major campaigns trying to get the show kicked off the air throughout its run.
Frankly, I think that A & E & C wanted the $$$$$ that was coming in from the Tea Party crowd and hoped like hell that nobody started a campaign to ban the show from the left. A & E & C's executives probably had to wage a secret campaign of their own to keep their own base from raising a stink.
So basically, this was a case of having two bases, each of which has nothing to do with the other (socialist gays and "Tea Party types"), that A & E & C had to have a very challenging balancing act to appease. Once Phil's interview came out, though, the balancing act had to end, and one or the other base was going to be shitcanned.
So A & E & C had to go with either having to get a constant black mark by a gay group in bed with the socialist administration and socialist interest groups (while maintaining their profits), or by being newly "beloved" by those same groups and the Obama administration. Keep in mind that had they kept Duck Dynasty (and lets face it, if they ban Phil, the show stops), they may have been the first station in the cross-hairs of the socialists when Obama's Internet / Media regulations come out next year.
Oh, forgot to tell you: Obama is going all out Executive Orders. The cable channel industry is going to go in absolute disarray next year.

This article was published in January 2013...doesn't it make you wonder why it took them 11 months to get upset over it?
Maybe obamacare was getting to much of a spotlight and needed a distraction?
Maybe it was the NDAA. NSA, IRS, Benghazi, or fill in the blank.......
You know this transparent administration likes to keep you looking at the left hand so you don't notice what the right hand is doing.

Reading through this thread, I can only conclude that the Dixie Chicks/Duck Dynasty thing is a poor comparison.
---Its far better to compare Duck Dynasty to the Chick Fillet boycott.
