How does a company know our new address?

In our new place the mail boxes are outside in this out door box like container that has little sections for each apartment. Since most of the utilities are included in the rent we have very little mail. So today I checked the box since it hadn't been checked in a couple days. In the mail was a flier addressed to my wife from AT&T. It was one of those Come back and use our cell phone service.

Here is the thing. My wife and I use pre-paid cell phones. This time last year we did get two AT&T pre-paid phones but stop using the service when their claims fell short. So by Jan we where looking for new cell phones.

Now here is the deal We went for this T- Mobile family plan unfortunately this plan is tied to Wal-mart something we didn't find out until after fact.

Now here is the thing before leaving AT&T we moved from our first place to the second place AND we just moved to this third place 3 months ago. This flier did not have resident but my wife's name. They where sending it directly to her.

Now she has noticed when she used her current phone it does say AT&T on the her phone when it looks for a signal. BUT she has a simple flip phone. Refuses to have a smart phone. She doesn't want that type of phone. even though her flip phone hardly ever gets a signal in parts of town and it is so old looking.

BUT what she was asking is how can they possibly know her address and yes we know T-mobile has connection with AT&T but we both realized that neither one of us has changed our billing address for T-Mobile since the bill is text to us.

1. You can't be serious. They probably know what color your rooms are painted.

That kind of information is available to anyone with a broadband connection. That would of course, include AT&T.

I mean, the NSA goes to the phone companies for information.

You voted for it, pal.  :tool:

2. Well before Presidents were supposed to be responsible for the actions of those under him

(say, before 1/20/2009) ...

there was a President who just had to ask companies for all their data, and they would turn it over to the government. No questions asked, no warrant required. Oh, there were a couple of companies who were concerned about the privacy of their customers, but they were deemed unpatriotic and in league with the terrorists. Ministers would suggest their flock boycott said companies.

But then, after say, 1/20/2009, people started getting upset about all that "big gummint getting into the daily lives" of people.

Maybe they requested a search by the NSA for a "missing person", similar to what was done when a bunch of Democrats left the "great state of Texas" to keep some bad legislation being put into law?

4. when I worked in news in the states

we used http://accurint.com/ to track people down.

It's a massive data base that's tied to Lexus Nexus.

You can pretty much get anything you want here....all addresses, current and past, any property one might own, relative connections, work history...dating as far back as the first time you got a job or registered for something.

At the time, it cost $5 per search, it might have been bumped up since then, but it was truly amazing and scary the information they have on there and the access one can have to that information.

5. I think I will keep this info from my wife. She is already screaming about the NSA stuff.

6. Yup

And they are not the only ones. There are new pups in the mill that are just as scary. The byte is impressive. Though if an error shows in one...it spreads.

Wait until they discover all the entities that exist which share primitive info...the DLC and DNC knew what they were doing when they set David up as head primitive.

I suspect Healthcare.GOV sold your personal info. No expectation of privacy you know.  :banghead:

Can't wait for the "How do all these companies know about our medical conditions?" threads from the primitives.

That translation makes as much sense as any other.

:lmao:  I very much enjoyed Nadin's remark about the biting dog factory.  I think that ranks up there with all her classics.

Man, you are a genius.

I didn't even come within ten miles of guessing what the cousin meant.

Awesome.  Really.

You know, with the primitive paranoia generator, the ParGen, we may have unknowingly invented the perpetual motion machine.
