So my daughter starts paying her student loan in January (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024173057)

$350 a month. She's only making 30K a year.

How are kids just out of school supposed to afford that??

You should have had her get a degree that has meaning in the real world.

The "how can I afford that?" question pretty much is the standard answer from a DUmbass regarding any good or service.

My monthly student loan payment is quite a bit higher than that, and I pay it my working my butt off.  I found a job that pays well (it helps to have a useful degree) and I pick up overtime shifts regularly to pay extra on my debt so that I can pay it off earlier.

A part time job can do wonders to pay down your debt if your employer doesn't offer overtime.

It's only 14% of her income. What's she going to do when she has to learn to budget to buy a house?

Poor kid. Moonbats for parents that never taught the kid how to handle money. It's because they didn't know how to handle money, either.

I can't imagine having a parent who is so stupid. Poor kid better shake off the shackles of left wing thinking asap.

I just went out and bought an F class Jag and now I have to make $1200 dollar a month payments!!

I only make $30,000 a year, how the hell am I supposed to make that work???

That's the thing with idiots, they have no idea how to make risk assessments that extend into the future. The future is completely closed to them because they have 0% ability to extrapolate. Gee wiz, If I do X then what happens when the devil comes to collect (his/her, whatever) due?

If it doesn't effect them in the here and now then it does not exist.

Stay away from your daughter, DUmmy.  She just might figure out how to live a good life as an adult and appreciate what she can accomplish on her own.  If you stay away.

<<< Proud to have recently paid off student loans recently and ten years ahead of schedule.

I was fortunate enough to pay my substantial student debt off with a single check, having acquired skills that continue to be in demand, and having worked hard to add value to organizations.

DUmmies don't really do either of those. They do what feels good, when it feels good, and damn the consequences. No, not DAMN the consequences. More like **** the consequences, since
they expect everyone else to pay for their misfortunes and mistakes. The way of the DUmmy is to borrow whatever is necessary, without asking questions or calculations, and then complain about the expense
after it's incurred. They make normative complaints when faced with positive problems, eg, "I don't make enough money! DAMN THOSE REPUBLICANS!".

I have no sympathy for any of them. In fairness, the kid who has to start paying may have a good attitude about the debt, and it's the DUmmy parent who's all pissed.

How are kids just out of school supposed to afford that?

1. Have her get a 2nd part time job
2. Don't get her nails done at a salon,  have her learn to do them herself
3. Does she really need that expensive data plan on her phone?
4. Have her take public transportation.  It saves money and the environment
5. Does he need to go out clubbing with her friends every weekend?
6.  Have her learn to cook for herself and not eat out.  Has she ever heard of Top Raman?
7. Does she need all of the premium channels on her cable plan?
8. Tell her the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities have pretty good thrift stores with lots of discounted clothing available.

I'm sure there are more ways to save money that fellow CC'ers can add to, but it's a start

I dunno where the DUmmy's daughter is living.  30K can either be a comfortable amount of yearly salary or it can be peanuts.  Blue states like to charge tons of money for all the deadbeats that move there.  I still laugh (sarcastically) about how when AZ passed SB1070 we got sued by alot of idiots, including the states of CA and NM.  They whined that our stringent enforcement measures would cause more illegals to stay in their states, and they'd have to support them. :censored:

I suppose the idea of also enforcing existing federal immigrations laws in CA and NM was too much of a stretch for the mental midgets running those states.  I'm happy to live in a Republican dominated state.  Can't wait for the 2014 elections either, should hopefully be an electoral massacre all over the country except the major blue states where the combined IQs of the Democrat politicians would be suitable training numbers for preschoolers who can't be expected to count much past 20.

I'm not an accountant, nor a financial expert of any kind, but shouldn't that question have been asked, and answered, before the debt was incurred?

Add in that nice $300/month Obama Care premium and she will wish that she was a starving student again.

That's what rational normal think.  You have no place in modern society where it is required to follow your heart and not your head.  Hopefully we'll have enough socked away for my kids to go to school debt free. Not doing the 529 thing because if they can come up with a solid business model, they can use the money to finance that.

Why didn't the dummies daughter do what I did... I worked full time to pay for school. Took longer I'll admit... but guess what dummie? I graduated debt free!!!! Built up my credit too cause I would borrow the money, secured with a CD I had saved for back when I was kid cutting grass and delivering papers, and then would pay the loan in 6 months.  180 day secured loan. I don't know if you can get one of those now. This was at a local bank and they are few and far between now. Gave me a lot of incentive too since it was my money. When you a teen, that loan payment don't set into your head... until you have to pay it back.

Edited to add:

Yo dummie!!! This straight from the MSNBC website so it will resonate with you... not an eeeevil fundy site. It's called the 25 percent rule. Give it to your kid.

The 25 percent rule for dummies (http://www.nbcnews.com/business/home-budgeting-try-25-percent-strategy-2D11731778)

Don't agree with it now... but we are dealing with dummies here so it is the best they can do.

I like this part:

The first 25 percent: taxes

Of course the libbies consider retirement and health care taxes. The paragraph:

"Face it, the money you earn is going to be taxed. Between the various federal and local assessments (including Social Security and Medicare), figure on a bill that could total 25 percent of pretax income for moderate earners, particularly when payroll deductions for company-sponsored healthcare benefits and retirement contributions are taken into account"

Taxes... I love taxes* when it affects the dummies. Taxes make young ideological libbies turn into conservatives. That and obumbles care.

*Just a note to prevent the bitch slapping fest...I hate taxes folks. Hate 'em. Don't mind paying my fair share, but the more I make, the more they take and give to worthless DU folks. Anything that makes the libbies pissed off makes me happy though.

Two pieces of advice that paid off for me.

1. Always save 10% of your paycheck.
2. Be in before the boss and leave after the boss leaves.

You know what dumbshit? You can find all the sympathy I have  for you and your screwed up progeny in the dictionary, somewhere between 'shit' and 'syphillis'.

Perhaps I was just stupid as a box of rocks, but when my dad got out of the Navy, he took his GI Bill and went to school: he got a swing shift job working as a civillian for the nearby Naval Weapons Station, and set himself up for classes during the day. He aveeraged 4 hours of sleep a night, but he got his degree, put it to work for him, and PAID ABSOLUTELY ZERO in student loan payments. That's right, DUmbshit, my dad refused to go into hock for an education, so we lived like paupers for the present - which I, the stupid, snot-nosed son who didn't know what he was doing resented the living hell out of at the time - in order for my dad to provide pretty damned comfortably for us later.

And so, of all the models I could have followed when it came time for me to make my own place in the world, which one do you think I chose, DUmbass? (If you said took out student loans and went into hock up to my eyeballs for a 4-year degree, you have just earned yourself another think, idiot.) More to the point, shit-for-brains, which model do you think I'm preparing MY son follow when it comes time for him to go out and make a living for him and his, while he tells your kid(s) whether or not he wants to supersize that meal?

Exactly Jukin! And take on any and all shit jobs that nobody else wants to do. Sooner or later, the boss starts to  depend on you more and more and then the day arrives when the boss realizes that he/she cannot do without you. Then the money starts coming your way.

H5!

Does she intend her daughter to stay in an entry level position for 10 years--the usual life of that type of loan in regular payment situations? If not, then what's the problem? If it's a worthwhile degree--30K is just to start--a couple years of on the job training and showing the bossman or lady she's got potential and she'll probably be doubling that in a few years if not sooner.

You have to remember she was raised by DUmmies, so odds are the only time she will get a raise is if they raise the minimum wage.

She needs to email Obama for help.

Old boss was in a talkative way one night when one night at 11PM lunch break he told me something of his last 60 years on planet Earth.

Born in India to Hindu parents and as a child for some reason taken to Kenya as a toddler. Not wealthy rather poor I take it.

Some one in Canada paid for him to come live in Canada and go to College. While in school he met an Exchange student from India and after they graduated  were married.

They came to America for some reason and had a son and a daughter.  When both had graduated High School he paid for their education and living expenses.    Both children lived at home but had to pay rent, so the kids had to get jobs summers and after school.

He mean while socked away their rent money and when they left home for marriage he returned all the 4 years of rent money to each as a wedding present.

Nice man, smart parents as his kids had no idea he would return with interest their rent money.    No student loans to repay, it is the duty of a parent to educate his children he said and he did well.

Very traditional family, all were tri lingual, Indian from the mother, Kenyan from the father and English.

The duty of the children was to make their parents proud of them, study hard, stay virgins, and not to marry anyone unsuitable, and never to bring shame on the family as children or adults.

He told me his big surprise was with our culture was that few children had any concept of duty to parents and siblings.  Then some parents other then the super wealthy felt little duty to their children except what is mandated by the law.

Look at the bright side -

You can be forced to add her to your insurance until she is 26 ! Isn't that AWESOME ?

Considering we're talking about DUmmies and their offspring, and "mama" didn't state WHEN daughter graduated, she's probably already over 26.
