For the second time in his life, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) has lost millions to fraud.
Grayson -- who has been named one of the 50 richest members of Congress -- personally lost $18 million to Chapman, according to the AP.

email from Alan Grayson asking for donations
http://alangraysonemails.tumblr.com/post/69532904646/please-read-this-if-you-didnt-donate-this-weekend
This year, I have passed more amendments in the U.S. House of Representatives than any other Member of Congress. According to Slate magazine, I’m the most effective Member of Congress.
Last year, I passed no amendments. Why? Because I wasn’t in Congress. The Republicans beat me in 2010, spending more than $5 million in sewer money to inundate my district with lying negative ads.
As I pointed out to you in e-mails on Friday and Saturday, it can happen again. In fact, it looks like it is happening again. The Republicans are already spewing their nasty filth against me, calling me an “Obamacare co-conspirator.â€
As I explained in those e-mails, The Washington Post recently reported that the National Republican Congressional Committee is targeting me. That word – “targeting†– is their word, not mine.
When you are a “targeted†House Democrat, it means that the other side is planning to spend $5 million or more to defeat you. You can take my word for it, because it happened to me before. And it worked. I was out of office. For two years, I wandered in the wilderness.
When you are out of office, there ain’t nothing you can do for nobody. Think of liberal lions like Dennis Kucinich, Barney Frank, Russ Feingold. Think of how much they accomplished in office. And then think of what they accomplished afterward.
How much would Elizabeth Warren be able to achieve if she had lost her Senate race?
Since I put out the word on Friday night, we have received over $100,000 in contributions and pledges, from well over 1000 people. That’s great, and I’m grateful. But that’s not enough to counter $5 million. If you didn’t contribute this weekend, then I need you to do that now.
And as I’ve explained before, the most effective way to do that is to make a monthly pledge. Just $10 or $20 or $25 each month – it adds up. It makes a difference, a huge difference. Every dollar counts.
We are fighting for justice, equality and peace. We are paying attention, we are working hard, and we are getting things done. And because of that, I am under attack. I need your help, and I need it today.
I know you are counting on me. Well, it works both ways. I’m counting on you. Please don’t let me down.
Courage,
Rep. Alan Grayson

Omg that is funny as hell.

Omg that is funny as hell.
What's a rich liberal doing trying to make more money?
Oh well, as DU is fond of saying - **** the 1%. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
-
If he's so damned stupid that he lost $18 million of HIS OWN MONEY, I sure as hell don't want him anywhere near the nation's checkbook!
-
Everyone needs to visit his twitter page and leave him words of encouragement.
-
IF true, that brought a smile to my face.
-
I personally don`t give a crap if he has 50 cents or 50 billion,he is a lunatic demagogue that tells the average Joe he is entitled to something for nothing, just give him more power and money and you will be taken care of.
Never happens though...idiots.

Thanks, Alan. Appreciate you burdening the American people with laws that further hinder our freedom.

Florida Democratic congressman loses $18 million in scheme
The man who ran the scheme, William Dean Chapman, was sentenced Friday in federal court to 12 years in prison. Prosecutors say Chapman used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle including a Lamborghini, a Ferrari and a $3 million home.
The scheme worked like this: clients would turn over their stocks to Chapman as collateral for a loan, and Chapman would let customers borrow about 90 percent of the stocks' value.
If the stocks did badly, borrowers could walk away and keep the money they were loaned. But if the borrowers' stocks did well, they would repay the loan with interest, and Chapman was supposed to return the stocks to the investor at their increased value.
But, according to court papers, Chapman sold the stocks and had no way to fulfill his obligations if a client's stock portfolio did well.

Wow, someone of such "superior intellect" lost all that money to a scam? No wonder the DUmmies want him to run the government. :mental:

He's a true DUmmie. This is the 2nd time he's lost millions of dollars.
Somewhere in Nigeria a Prince is laughing his ass off.

A fool and his money...
Wasn't Grayson in an accident with his rolls and a public bus while Dui ?
What was the outcome of that ?

I had forgotten about his crash with a bus.

I don't remember if he was drunk. I figured his insurance picked up the tab.

IIRC, he ran a red light with his Benz and nailed a bus.

For two years, I wandered in the wilderness.
Oh how John the Baptist-esque of you. I take offense.
He truly is THE DUmmie congressman. So gullible as to be taken twice, nasty as the day is long, and he lies and projects as well. It was his ad that lied, turning so many voters off, not the other guy's. Ugly to boot.

He wandered in a drunken stupor and hit a bus.

I feel his pain....sort of....I didn't get a damn nickel of any of those millions.

That was what I was thinking. I hope those poor people the drunkard ran into wipe out the rest of his NAV.

really, twice taken. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me . In addition, I just assumed Alan was one of us great unwashed middle-class guys struggling for a few bucks to stay in office. Just got an e-mail from him saying how he was under attack from the Repukes and needed money. Alan must be up there with the 99% moneywise. Still admire him and glad he's on our side .

1. Its never been a secret that Alan Grayson is quite wealthy.

He also worked for it. And he wants to tax the shit out of it
frazzled (10,325 posts)
2. Did he?
He made his fortune as president of a discount telecom corporation (IDT International Discount Telecom), not something we would generally approve of here. And the revelation that he has twice invested his millions in fraudulent schemes suggests that, rather than "earning" money, he is prone to trying to parlay it via risky stock ventures (possibly of the sort that helped to topple the financial industry and cost us little people a lot of bucks).
I'm not the sort that foams at the mouth at wealthy people. I do not. But I sense something amiss here in the same way I always sensed something phony in John Edwards--who was also begging $25 political contributions from the people from his "two Americas" even as he was using it to pay off a pregnant mistress. One difference I'll grant you is that Edwards never showed an iota of progressiveness in any of his politics, while Grayson has (though it must be said that it's at the level of words, still, and until something comes of these words, I'll remain skeptical).
Let's be clear: it's, at minimal, troubling that he has gotten caught twice in these Ponzi-type schemes.

3. He worked his way through college as a janitor and security guard.

Theres no sin in that in and of itself.
Theres also no sin in investing money and losing out because of someone else's fraud or bad business decisions.
I don't care that Alan Grayson made a lot of money and exercised his right to lose some of it, as long as he wasn't screwing people over himself while doing it and thus far, theres no evidence to support that.
Hmmm, compare that to how you assholes treated Mitt Romney or any conservative or Republican politician.

You're being far too generous...

Keep that in mind, idiots, as you continue to blame everything Conservative.
