Ezra Klein: Obamacare’s real promise: if you lose your health-care plan, you can get a new one
Obamacare’s real promise: if you lose your health-care plan, you can get a new one
Posted by Ezra Klein on December 7, 2013
The furor over "if you like your plan, you can keep it" touches on a deep fear in American life: That your health-care insurance can be taken from you. That fear is so powerful because it happens so often: Almost everyone in the country can lose their health insurance at any time, for all kinds of reasons — and every year, millions do.
If you're one of the 149 million people who get health insurance through your employer, you can lose your plan if you get fired, or if the H.R. department decides to change plans, or if you have to move to a branch in another state.
If you're one of the 51 million people who get Medicaid, you could lose your plan because your income rises and you're no longer eligible or because your state cut its Medicaid budget and made you ineligible. You could lose it because you moved from Minnesota, where childless adults making less than 75 percent of the poverty line are eligible, to Texas, where there's no coverage for childless adults.
If you're one of the 15 million Americans who buys insurance on the individual market, you could lose your plan because your insurer decides to stop offering it or decides to jack up the price by 35 percent. And that's assuming you're one of the lucky people who weren't denied coverage based on preexisting conditions in the first place.

Also notice the price increase is the fault of the insurance companies, not 0bama who promised rates would go down.

1. Precisely.
Mr. Accumulates was laid off last week. His job provided the insurance for our family. In the past, we'd have had to do without because of my medical history. Now, we don't have to panic because we are moving into Obamacare. Thank you, President Obama, for that little bit of piece of mind in the midst of this turmoil.
Now how is that possible? Unemployment is down to record lows never seen since the beginning of time at 7.0%.
The reality is, there are a lot of people without the peace of mind they had prior to 0bamacare, they lost their plans, they lost access to the doctor they have been going to for years.
The answer to the doctor problem is 0bama never promised that you could have unlimited access to all doctors, so when he said you could keep your doctor he didn't say you wouldn't have to pay more to do so. :banghead:

2. I agree, that is most important aspect so far. Need to get poor coverage they can use.
ACA was a big first step. It could have been better, save for Republican obstructionists and stupid people. But, it needs improvement.
Once again the failures of this bill is all the reputhuglican's fault. Never mind every word, every punctuation mark, and every dot on the i was done by the democrats.

I can well remember when people started keeping jobs to keep health insurance, it was not always this way.
I remember when people kept their jobs so they could take care of themselves, how times have changed. Now everything we have could be lost in an instant all because of the meddling of the federal government, 0bamacare has reduced jobs, reduced hours at many jobs, and now it is reducing options for insurance and more people will be pushed to the exchanges for real junk insurance. Meanwhile these pinheads tell us it's all for our own good. :banghead:
I hope like crazy that the lies will fall on deaf ears and people will vote these idiots out in droves next year.

If you like your democrats, you can keep 'em....I sure as hell don't want them.

Just wait until after January 1, when the $3,000/year deductable before the "good insurance" kicks in (paying 60% of the costs, instead of 80%) starts hitting single people . . . and for married, it's $6,000 a year. Out-of-pocket.
The moderates will desert the Obamessiah and the Democrites (the Senate Democrats really ought to force Dingy Harry Reid onto Obamacare) in waves. The political tsunami will be bigger than 2010.

I am waiting for the law that forces healthcare givers to accept all forms of insurance.
-
Our local hospital was not included in ACA. Ain't life wonderful?

When you have to lie to cover up the lie that covered up the lie that covered up the lie before that, you're in trouble.

Yep, and they'll exploit civil rights law to do it. CR will no longer mean, "the things I cannot do to you." It will come to mean "the things I must do for you." In which case they will have used CR to bring back slavery; compulsory labor in service to another.

Current tax law does that now thru the redistribution of earned wealth to the unproductive class.

It's no accident that the government took over student loans 100% in the health care law and it also included a military style chain of command.
I can see the government "choosing" who gets student loans and for what professions.
Currently the military will train you to be a doctor after college and you must sign up with them for seven years to pay back your college loans.
Part of Obama's civilan army maybe"?

Smartest people on the internet don't know that if you don't have a lapse in coverage you are covered for an "existing" condition. You just had to pay your FAIR share of the cost. No I have to pay an UNFAIR share of the cost. BTW, wait until you see that your new Obama Care premiums have doubled and your deductible has tripled.

Yep, going to need them when he declares "Marshall Law" and stays in office.

Can ammo purchases be a write off?
Just add it to your bill for Healthcare Insurance.....hey, they put all kinds of taxes in the bill so there should be write offs for protecting your health.
